Hey, y'all!

I was just doing some meandering-thinking while I was washing the dishes today. Y'know how there are some quests, such as Darla's, the "hey go there and exchange this for this for me." Well, what if there were more quests like this throughout the lands. i think it would help tie the various towns together, to simulate the exchange of information and/or goods from one person/merchant to another. They wouldn't have to be really invoved quests, just a simple "I'm a merchant from macedone, will you run this message to Darla in the Vale?" The payoff wouldn't have to be great, either, particularly if there was an abundance of this type of quest. It would be a nice change from the quest that requires a great deal of time in order to save the world - I can't save the world in one sitting, but I can move a package from the Vale to Mountainholm Castle.

Currently, the mayor's office has some quests like this, as does the Inn.

While Fed-Ex quests are a good way to get players to see the world, this particular world is rather dangerous upon occasion. Personally, I like the NPC in the Inn that offers safe directions and travel tips. Maybe add some quests to his repetoire as he grows more familair with each PC (eg; after you complete so many other tasks, or gain some knowledge from other places, then maybe he offers even more info)?

Maybe some other light types of quests, too?

And while the XP from the quests appears to be fair, the gold is lacking. While it is in keeping with a FRPG economy, it does not begin to cover expenses for ship travel, healing items, resurrections, etc. on some of these quests in this world. The desert statue cost me a fortune to return to the Vale. Maybe it and some other quests should include travel vouchers to introduce PC's to the lands far away... so to speak.

More quests would be great, even if they are just errandboy type quests or such.

Doing just one quest at a time, I've found on average, I can get through all the quests available in the vale by level 10/15 (and that's with walking everywhere, no ships/teleporting, fighting whatever comes across my path). Having more quests to do would be a great break from the monotony of hunting, and be a great diversion from exploration runs, especially for the players who've already explored nearly all the lands already

Exactly! Nothing earth-shattering or land-imperiling, just a simple get that for me kinda-deal. I think we def. need more of these sorts-of mundane quests (hey, let's not even call them quests - these are more along the lines of jobs).

Personally, I think quests are a great way of exploring. I like the idea of quests not all being available initially, i.e. if you prove yourself in doing one quest/errand etc. you might get asked to do another one. What about guilds? I remember from NN or Baldur's Gate the initiation into a Theive's Guild which required the "acquistion" of certain items, maybe something like this could be introduced? What about using the various followers of different gods as points for this. As a follower of Asis for example you may be asked to go and collect various rare healing herbs to be made into potions, or something more sinister for Sorgath or Ragnor? Success would give items of favours linked to your god/goddess????

Then I am not too far off the mark. I have a couple untaken quests, and I just turned 15th.

But I was warned the roads to some of these places were hazardous, and they are indeed. The Orcs that guard the roads to the mines have done more damage to Aargyle than any encounter since becoming 12th lvl. I attempted the Helm of Disguise on a return visit, but they were hostile and attacked on sight. Invisibility potions are fine for short ventures, but fad too quickly for a trip across counties. And the roads to the desert lands were rumored to be quite harsh; hence the ship bookings.

I did notice on the latest check with the mayor's office that recommended lvls are given for tasks. This is a big plus for newbies.

Just out of curiosity, are you still accepting quest suggestions? The one I submitted for that contest a while back was admittedly pretty lame (I just wanted to be involved Embarassed ), but I've had an idea for one since that I thought would be pretty neat and probably fairly unique to Aenea. Not that I want to try and "ret-con" it as my entry for said contest or anything, of course (though if it were put in and I were offered the prize of "a hint on exactly where the quest starts", I'd certainly take it Razz ).

True dat! As a newcomer, upon first accepting Darla's quest, you're thinking 200 gold is a decent chunk of money. But once you attempt it and you realize just how far you've got to travel, how convoluted it is and how very likely it is you will die (more than once) on the way, I'm like, "She's only giving me 200 quid for this?!" Shocked

I still got it in the back of my mind. Not sure if The Amethyst Dragon or Dave have any thoughts about it. Admittedly, I haven't been in a "DM running quests" mood for a bit... it takes a bit of mental effort to coordinate something as interresting and complex as that can get. It hasn't been forgotten though Smile

When i ran campaigns on the devils den server... i was the hit parade Razz i had good side workin with evil side while both were tryin to backstab each other and the real bad guys using that against them...it was a hoot! Razz

Id love to run that here sometime...but thats prob a long ways off if ever that id make dm status...i think i need some serious long playtime before being considered for that.

Manny hit this on the head. Since I got my new job... I havent felt like running any plot/event stuff.... I have been primarily in "player mode" unless there is an immmediate issue that needs a DM fix. Eventually we will do something with the idea, but the creative juices need to align with motivation and time constraints.
