Need Advice for running NWN on Vista

Friend of mine wants to play with us, he has vista. He installed diamond edition.

He clicks the icon, gets the launcher, then he clicks "play"... then it seems to shut down.... no splash screen, no loader, nothing. Not even an error message from Vista that the program encountered a problem.

I know about the client cpu affinity=1 setting, but as far as I know, that has to do with performance speed once the game actually is running... which he has not gotten to...

I was thinking of having him edit the shortcut settings to run the game in XP compatibility mode, and also checking to see if the nwn.exe process is even in task manager (maybe it is just hanging due to a video issue)...

Anybody else ever had similar issues? Any ideas on workarounds?

I don't get onto the bioforums too often, but I think I've seen a number of diamond-edition/vista threads on there. Bio's search feature is a rotten ham, but it's worth a shot.

That being said... I had a problem like that briefly when I had vista with my regular NWN+expansions install. The critical rebuild solved the problem, as well as putting the configuration from the compatibilitymode texture pack to the 64+ meg texture pack, didn't have to fuss with the shortcuts starting the game in compatibility mode at all (that was one aspect I never thought worked right anyway, nor did I ever seem to need it). I'm not sure how technically different diamond edition is from a regular edition+expansions, but it wouldn't hurt to give the rebuild a try.

I'm assuming he got the game all patched up? Cuz I was having fits with mine after I switched to vista until I got the last update downloaded. Vista wouldn't let me just update my game, had to download it separately.
