Used: Mundane Melody (opening a can of worms!)
Ok, suggestion for mundane melody...
I've recently discovered that this song is -not- party friendly. It wouldn't be so bad if the effect were just shutting down spellcasting... like remembering not to use quake in the presence of party members who'd die from it, just don't use mundane while partying up with casters. However, it also adversely affects non-casters in that it unequips their items.... this makes it completely unusable in a party situation, more so than quaking chorus, which can be negated to varying degrees by party members with decent discipline and damage reduction (quite often, especially at mid to high levels, PCs will have much better DR than monsters, making quaking chorus a nuisance to them, but not necessarily deadly).
I think this song could use a bit of tweaking. Being party friendly is the one aspect I -really- want to see with this song, or at least make it not so much of a complete and total detriment to party members.
The item unequipping. It can be very useful to cause a baddie to unequip their weapon. However, I have found that in practical application, the NPC will simply re-equip the weapon on the next round, and not many seem to have items in use either to pop off... making this aspect of the song effectively PvP rather than PvM. This aspect I think can, and probably should be dropped from the song. That alone, would make it's party value a great deal higher, as it'd be usable when there aren't other casters in the group at least.
SR aspect, which doesn't work. This would be great if it worked, and also, if it worked for party members. Making it a party SR buff would actually probably make it so everyone would want a bard along with them.
The Spell Failure. Dave has wanted some form or resistance to this, there was that whole ugly thread way back on this. I wouldn't mind enemies (PC or NPC) being able to resist if the method made for a balanced check. A Perform Vs spellcraft check or a perform vs concentration check on a round to round basis? And if nothing else at all.... just no shutting down of party casters, or giving party members a substantial bonus to avoid the effect.

Re: Used: Mundane Melody (opening a can of worms!)
Hehe... now MY rant!!!
Just kidding, actually.
I dont really care about the song giving spell failure. its supposed to do that... i never liked that the bard isnt affected.... but I have no problem with the above suggestions whatsoever.
If there does end up being a contested check for the spell failure, i think concentration is a better check than spellcraft, as you have to force your spells through the blockage by force of will more than you have to understand the inner workings of the bloackage....
