ping .......................................ping ...../
This is a bit of an etiquette query.
I am still getting used to online gaming, with being polite to actual people and what not.
(at least in PnP if all else failed you could resort to ACTUAL retaliation)
I have seen a bit of this DM managed bits and pieces and as much as I would like to join in, I have some reservations.
The connection I have is a little slow.
normal pings are in the order of 2000.
On a good day they can get down to 800 ish.
My concern is that due to my rather slow reaction time, if I was a part of such an outing, it would make it rather painful for everyone else.
I have adapted to this lag, and can accommodate somewhat, but I do not expect others to have to.
To add to this again I use a mac and the game does not perform as well on the macs. I am trying to get it running in the windows emulator, but with only partial success thus far. (At least I now have the toolset) and this is GOOOOOD javascript:emoticonp('')
For when I do talk to people ingame, please allow for delays on my part.
Another problem is that my connection regularly freezes, times out or just stops.
Some of you may have also noticed that I do not keep characters for long. I tend to get to lvl 7-8 and then decide to start again.
Perhaps Ramin will be different.
So this is not so much a question as a request for opinions with regard to the effects of a single laggy connection on the enjoyment of others in an event, also the effects from a DM perspective if possible.
cheers, Jack
note : the slow pinging is also, at least partially, responsible for some of the gymnastics/fits that I sometime display when attempting something.

Re: ping .......................................ping ...../
Your slow ping will only affect your play experience, it wont affect the latency of other players clients, so you neednt worry about that.
In some Dm events, things do get crazy, and the threat level is usually moderate to very high.... so latency *can* be very frustrating, especially when its getting you killed because to can't react to what is happening around you...

I figure there is no point getting too frustrated.
I know the added risk of long pings going in, and the escape potions are not always fast enough.

On the bright side, DMs are usually pretty friendly, and are (from my experiences as a PC) accommodating with characters (rezing, that sort of thing). So a slow connection is frustrating, but certainly doable.

Re: ping .......................................ping ...../
After tonight's goblin battle, I can begin to appreciate the problems that i have.
When the battle proper was entered, I was pretty much helpless.
the latency delay was such that I had little or no influence on what I did.
The mac based NWN also had difficulty with the size, though I am not sure how much was the connection and how much was the mac.
I will try to partition the drive and install NWN on windows, and see if that helps at all.
I cannot do anything about the connection while at sea, so hopefully running NWN nearly natively on a partition will provide some improvement.
TY Audrey for bringing me back in each time I crashed out.
And of course for jumping me over the fence.

That wasn't Audrey, that was Bernes, _UA_'s cleric of Asis who was healing all us up
