Dracolich

My fellow Guardians of Valorian's Vale,

I call upon all those I have met valiantly fighting to preserve Valorian's Vale from the forces of Darkness to meet me in the Sleeping Dragon Inn on Thursday, August 14, at 7PM CST.

There is a Dracolich in the caverns under the Valorian Vale Graveyard. This foul beast sent my two brave companions to the shadow realm, and left me bleeding and staggering into the shadows when we attempted to remove his vile taint from Valorian Vale.

THIS MUST NOT STAND! I shall lead my friends and allies back into the lair of the abomination, and we shall dispatch him to the nether realms!

//ooc If you have not yet picked up the quest from the Town Hall in Valorian's Vale, make sure you do before we go in, my understanding is the entire party will get credit for finishing the quest. See you Thursday!

Travelling the planes of late has been a drain on my time.

I am, however, quite familiar with the Winged Abomination you speak of. I have laid him low more than once... but have never managed to locate that which empowers his essence to reform his body.

His phylactery.

I have never heard of a lich that does not store their soul in a phylactery, allowing them to cheat death and undeath should their physical form be destroyed. If this beast does not have one, then he may well be more powerful than we know.

If I am able to join you, I shall bring the full brunt of Mystara's gift to bear on the vile creature.

I do wish to point out one thing here. While the beast himself has made choices that he alone must be held responsible for... as evil and horrid and treacherous as they are, it must be stated that his downfall and corruption were instigated and engineered by another.
It is this insidious manipulator who we must locate and punish for such an atrocity. Indeed, we may also find the phylactery we seek.

Be sure to carefully read the large tomes in the antechamber at the base of the stairs. They tell an important and sad tale...

After you understand... you may feel pity for the foe you seek to lay low.

The foul beast has been slain in his lair! Many of the defenders of our fair Vale joined forces and fought our way down to the cavern where he worked his foul magic, disturbing the rest of the dead and sending forth his undead minions.

Many people received items from the dragon to fulfill their own objectives, and everyone was satisfied with the results of the evening.

The only problem is that Crideas was right. There was no trace of a Phylactery, and I fear our victory is only temporary. I shall think on this, and perhaps we can find a permanent solultion to this problem someday.

Brave souls victorious in the depths of the lair of Evil.

As for the phylactery... if we can track down a wisened Priest of Kalas and make sufficient donation... I am confident the Lord of Knowledge will impart the information we seek, even if the process takes time for the priest to commune.

I would surmise however, that the cost of "sufficient donation" would be quite high indeed for one
such as Vorshlag.
