Poll: Darken Lava?

I'm considering darkening lava in Aenea, so it'll look like this:



So, whatcha think? Good? Bad? Whatever?

Looks alot better IMO. Much more like flowing-magma-lava instead of Biowares fire-burning-hell lava.... will it still throw off the same red-fiery glow to the walls and ceilings though ?.. cause I really like that effect especially with the camera down low as you inch along a tunnel...

I agree with Rusty 100%; it looks great, but it'll take the right lighting and atmosphere to really sell the heat

The red glow on walls/ceilings comes from lighting settings in the toolset. Hmmm...seems I could use more of it in the location I took that screenshot in.

If I do change this, the lava's surface will still seem to "ripple" a little as if from the heat.

From my POV, the darker look would be terrific for slower or non-moving pools, and the lighter used for streams and the like.

This. I think BOTH types have their use. I do think the lava with the 'darker' surface would be well served by brighter shades of orange or more glow/light. The darker lava does look awesome. I just don't think it would be able to totally replace the old.

Take 2: brighter orange-er melty parts

This one tends to show more of a pattern when viewed from far above, but looks good when zoomed in closer "chase cam" style (which is better for inside mines and caves anyway).

Me like style 2 ... but the red of the first seems more smouldering-to-cooling-lava, whilst take2 seems more like fresh-hot-to-smouldering lava...

Now I'm torn between the two... either way they is both better then red-orange-red-glow-blind-eyes-fires-of-hell-bioware-standard ....

I love the last one... But that area is just crying out for some red/orange tile lighting... aqua...ewww... heh heh.
