Activities named after people.
Ever have one of those moments when a person might be know for doing something, so people start referring to that activity by that person's name?
I bring this up, because in revamping an area (giving it a seriously crappy "downgrade"), I may have ended up "pulling a Kefrem". You know, using lots of placeables to make the place more visually interesting...hopefully pre-compiling the tile models I changed will help keep things moving nicely (it's really just a bunch of flowing water placeables that I used).
Some others I've had in mind:
"The Crideas Maneuver" - using so many spells at once that your PC can't actually be seen due to all the visual effects.
"Name Atrophy" - making a character with a name so long and convoluted nobody really bothers to read beyond the first four letters before giving up.

*chuckles*
Aww shucks.... I haven't managed to explode into magical confetti just yet
I think Kef is coming to terms with his placeable addiction, too.
As for Eric, I think he just finds the tie-your-tongue-in-knots-trying-to-pronounce-them names waaaay too amusing

As far as pulling a Kefrem, that's why I've never released any of my modules - I keep tinkering with them!
And I hope to be around to see the Crideas Confetti Blast when it finally arrives!

Re: Activities named after people.
Ha! .. I think Eric's names are all derived from an "on-line elvish language translator".. the translations roughly syncing up to what that PC does/is/wants to be ....
I like the "doing a Kef" thing.. I'm known to do that myself sometimes (anyone wandered through the Rising Sun and wondered what is a "static-plot-placeable" and what is "tileset-nonsense" .. ) ...
And loading Grace up with all the defensive spells I can think of (arcane and divine from 0-9th lev ) that I can fit in her rather generous slots and hitting that magical "SoRD" hotkey, always makes me think of daves sig post...
------------------------------------------------------------------
"Clan Cloning"... rapid log-in, log-outs of all your PC's to do a full backup/export of your entire list for the purpose of "saving records in the unlikely event of a complete sever crash"... as inspired by Sir Ray (and the nightkind clan)...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
"Name of MJ" ... beginning all your PC's name's with the same character, to the point where non-MJ people with an "A" name get repeated tells asking if they are him....
------------------------------------------------------------------
"Creating a S'vair's Lair" ... creating so many PC's that even you can't follow who is who...

Re: Activities named after people.
Pretty close but not quite, RustyDios! I use many different name generators, numerous ethnic name lists, and (lately) the Sumerian Lexicon - not to mention some good old-fashioned imagination to weld all those names together! And the translations (of those that have them) pretty much align with the PC's circumstances and/or motivations.RustyDios wrote:Ha! .. Y'know, maybe I'll go and start a naming resources thread, and post all the relevant links I have. Yeah, that sounds good! *wanders off to feed children and dig through hard drives*

Re: Activities named after people.
I have an award in two High Schools named for me:
* The Smokey The Bear award from McClintock HS in AZ for burning my drum heads with a road flare.
* The Eldon Whisler award in Starkville HS here in MS for the most bizarre and unique behaviour; reason unknown.... *coughs*
As for D&D, I rather believe I fit the norm!

Re: Activities named after people.
When we first moved here to MS, I discovered I could change who I was, or more importantly, who I thought I was into something better. I dropped weight at Summer camp, started to wear bright neon colors that did not match, stood up to Seniors, made fun of one of the HS bullies, started my stand-up talent in impressions, but steadily remained a klutz.
One day in band, my only job for one concert song was to hit the gong once. That was it. So when my note came near, I prepped the gong by gently starting it vibrating, took the padded mallet back, and preceeded forward in my swing.....
Now it is amazing to me that in 10 min of nothing but anticipation, how much sweat can build up on a percussionists palm. The mallet slipped from my grasp, and I thought I had lost it. Good news: it had been secured tightly to my wrist by the strap. Bad news: the full momentum of my swing trying to reach the now secured mallet was headed towards the awaiting gong.... *WHAMMMMMMMMMM*
I do not know how many bloody lips were caused in the brass section within that moment, or how many broken reeds. All I could see was the look of utter horror in the face of the band conductor, and his his wife atop the upper deck as she had lost her sheet music due to fright and dismay. And all I could do was *shrug*; not like I could take it back.....
I also lost the grip on the bass drum mallet during an outdoor concert, and it ended up in the bell of a nearby tuba. Etc
The catch for me is that in the many years after this event, one of my D&D players won this award.
P.S. My stand-up act was mostly based on true stories based on my dating life that started my Senior yr, *sigh* We must either laugh or cry.....

Re: Activities named after people.
Wow.... so Linu from the NWN OC or Jar Jar Binks would offer you sympathy, eh?
Still, you do have a knack with the comedy and impressions. I will never again be able to take Aurora seriously when she makes her usual condescending remarks... cuz I will hear it in my head with her doing a heavily nasal accent

Yes and no ... Abraham, Tabitha, Lucille and Jenavieve - they all have two middle names. Beyond that, they're all good and normal - now, their nicknames ...evilkittenofdoom wrote:Please tell me that your children's names are far simpler....
