Favorite Movies Where People Get Beat Up A Lot
I can't be the only one here who sometimes, particularly after work, just wants to melt her brain for a while and watch people get beat up, or see stuff explode, or see epic battle scenes. What're your favorites and least favorites, too?
Drunken Master w/ Jackie Chan - win; delightfully bad. Sequel not involving Jackie Chan - too painfully bad to get more than halfway through.
Die Hard, the original - win. Gotta love seeing McClane get beat up. #2, take or leave, #3, buddy aspect was just irritating, #4, enjoyable enough that when USA had it on every night for like a month... Matt and I watched it about 7x XD Although intoxication may have helped with that...
Kung Fu Hustle - WIIIIIIINNNNNNN with a side of bwahahahahaha
Ong-Bak, the original - so painful to finish, with the constant replays of really forced fight scene stunts. Ong-Bak 2, completely unrelated to the original, and much more entertaining to watch, although confusing ending.
Red Cliff, original two part version: As long as I can fast forward through really draggy parts, or the icky horse being born part, so much epic battle win. Tortoise battle scene = one of best movie epic battles I've ever seen. EVAR.
Red Cliff, one part theatrical version: they cut so much to make it shorter that they cut half of the coolest stuff out of the battles. FAIL.
Enter the Dragon, entertaining. Return of the Dragon, so bad it was awesome sauce.
HERO - It's so pretty looking and sounding AND it's got fights worth watching over and over again. (CHESS HOUSE). One of my favorites evar.

Re: Favorite Movies Where People Get Beat Up A Lot
Chocolate - Kind of a strange storyline, but some very, very nice fight choreography.
LotR: Two Towers? - Can't beat a couple of characters enjoying a friendly competition to see who kills the most bad guys in the midst of an epic battle.
Pretty much any Jackie Chan flick - The fight choreography and comedy worked into the fights just make these fun to watch.
Spaceballs - The scene where Vespa's hair gets shot by a laser, and the "lightsaber" battle between Lone Star and Dark Helmet. Ok, so both of these are terrible beat-down scenes, but they're from one of the greatest movies ever for any scifi fan to watch.

The old school Chuck Norris horror flick with the unkillable zombie which Chuckie beats on for probable 60 of 80 minutes was pretty cool.

Braveheart. Win. So much blood and death
Ninja Scroll. Anime awesomeness.
Dragon Fist - old jacky chan flick that was not comedic... acting/plot was slightly painful... fights were some of his best ever, though.
Dragon the bruce lee story...
Old steven seagal flicks. Marked for death, Under seige, Above the Law, Out for justice...
Some select old JCVD flicks, hard target, bloodsport, kickboxer.

Re: Favorite Movies Where People Get Beat Up A Lot
Indiana Jones- It had to be said; he's like McClane with a PhD., multiplied by the coolness of a bullwhip
The Princess Bride- Inigo Montoya Vs. The Dread Pirate Roberts deserves a place in the awesome fight hall of fame
Sin City- Manages to be wholly gruesome and oh so pretty at the same time
Iron Monkey- How many people can Donnie Yen beat down with an umbrella and still have it be believable? A lot, apparently.
Seven Swords- Not great overall, but has some memorable scenes (including one where two fighters face off, each dual wielding swords, but only ever attack each other with a fifth sword that neither of them actually touches)
The Punisher- Frank Vs. The Russian; great fight overall, plus the villain gets done in by pasta!
Red Cliff (original two part version)- I know inthecorridors already said this one, but so frickin' epic it has to be said again; if you dug the large scale melee mayhem of Braveheart or LotR, watch Red Cliff; you'll poop your geek pants

Re: Favorite Movies Where People Get Beat Up A Lot
Many good ones listed, so I will attempt to name a few different ones:
* Son of Katie Elders - John Wayne uses an axe handle across the bridge of George Kennedy's nose. I still wince....
* Man Who Shot Liberty Valance - JW again, James Stewart, Lee Marvin, Lee Van Cleef, Woody Stroud, many, many more in my fave Western. And Jimmy Stewart punches JW....
* McClintock - JW again! "Someone aught to hit you! But I won't! I won't! The h*** I won't!"
* Rocky I and III - great fight scenes.
* Cinderella Man - another great fight flic that told me a tale not heard before, and still inspires me.

Not really awesome, but more like awesomely bad. The fight scene from They Live. It just. Keeps. Going. For... ev... er. (OK, five minutes.)
The film also has the infamous line, 'I'm here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all outta bubblegum.'

Re: Favorite Movies Where People Get Beat Up A Lot
Amethyst347, They Live is an awesome movie! "That's like puttin' perfume on a pig!"
Fight Club - 'nuff said.
Watchmen - best superhero movie ever.
Hard Boiled - despite the laughable English track, it's a helluva shoot-em-up!
As far as anime goes,
Riding Bean - 'nuff said!
Any of the Ikkitousen series - a lotta fanservice, but a lotta arse-kicking, too!

I can't believe looking through this thread that we seem to have missed Kill Bill (and Volume 1, is so much better then volume 2)...

Well, that's because Kill Bill was so lame It was a fun idea, but I'd call it an underachievement in terms of execution (except for Pai Mei, of course)

Diggstown is on my list, and I finally watched the theatrical version of Red Cliff (two thumbs up, cant wait for the two part discs to come in!)
The Warriors is one of my all-time favorite movies. Note that the main bad guy is the actor who played T-bird in 'The Crow'.

Oh, if you could stand the one-part version, never mind liked it, you should go get ready now with lots of snack food and your intoxicant of choice, cos there's 2-3x as much epic battling ahead!
I've been watching too many Chinese movies where they've got actors who can legit handle a sword. I burst out laughing during lightsaber fights now because it looks so bad, as much as I am a Star Wars nerd XD

Re: Favorite Movies Where People Get Beat Up A Lot
I have to agree that lightsaber choreography is sadly lacking.... in the whole /facepalm sort of way... though, Ray Park, (a.k.a. Darth Maul) is an actual martial artist who knows how to handle a staff in real life.
As for Red Cliff.... that time period of the Chinese Civil War during the Han Dynasty.... it was actually the subject of one of my all-time favorite video games.... an old SNES game called Romance of the Three Kingdoms II.
That game ruled my free time during the grammar school years and even into the first half of high school
Favorite General : Guan Yu or Zhao Yun
Favorite Diplomats: Zhuge Liang and Lui Bei

Re: Favorite Movies Where People Get Beat Up A Lot
After thinking about this one, and initially believing that I was a girl, and so did not enjoy watching violence that much, I realized that, well...
Favorites are...
The Fifth Element (although many of the combatants are aliens)
Big Trouble in Little China (although many of the combatants have god like powers)
The Army of the Dead (although half of the combatants are dead)
Tremors, I, II, or III, (although many of the combatants are big worms)
Lake Placid, (although some of the combatants are giant crocodiles)
Jaws, (even though ect. blah blah, "great white shark")
And, any old japanese Godzilla flick, cause if you are talkin epic battle, it would be cool if you could just stomp your enemies' home town, lol
Same reason I like Ghost Busters, (well, that, and having a portable unlicenced nuclear accelerator)
Transporter, 1 & 2
Ultraviolet
Blade movies
I also love any Jackie Chan movie, cause, well, awww c'mon!!!!
newest fave, The Sorcerers Apprentice
Biggest dissapointment, The Last Airbender

I can't seem to find the full version of Red Cliff with English Subtitles.
Found it with German, but that's not really helpful.
