What happens if I break an item?
(This refers to the use of an upcoming VC command ;;breakitem)
When you use this command, a script will look for an item in your right hand. If you aren't holding anything in that hand, it will look for an item in your left hand. If there isn't an item there, it will look in your inventory for an item you may have used the Select tool on. If it still doesn't find a valid item, nothing will happen. If the script finds a valid item, it will check to make sure the item is not cursed or set to "plot" status.
Once a valid item is found, you would make a Strength check vs. the item's hardness. The check is 1d20 + your Str modifier (+10 if you have Improved Power Attack or +5 if you have Power Attack).
If you succeed on the Strength check, you succeed in breaking the item and destroying it.
Why break an item?
You may want to role-play the destruction of some item, breaking it instead of sacrificing it.
Certain items may produce different effects if broken. For instance, you can break a staff of the magi or a staff of power to release a retributive strike (damaging everything within a 10 meter radius with raw explosive energy that ignores spell resistance and elemental resistances).

- Spoiler:
- Retributive Strike Details:
When certain charged items (currently the staff of the magi and the staff of power) are broken, they release all their stored energy (remaining charges) in a 10 meter radius explosion. Creatures within 3 1/3 meters suffer 8 points of magical damage per charge. Those within 6 2/3 meters suffer 6 points of damage per charge. Others within the 10 meters suffer 4 points per charge. There is a reflex save vs. DC 17 for half damage, but no spell resistance or elemental resistances apply.
The holder of the broken item has a 50% chance of:
A) dying instantly, with no corpse left to raise or resurrect
b) being send to another plane of existence
