damnable Elves! (Dwarves!)

Elves get their own weapon proficiency... but Dwarves can't use a Dwarven Waraxe by default? It's not even like those pointy eared bastards are getting exclusive claim to rapiers, bows and longswords...

So.... Small change: Dwarven waraxes (and maybe one or two other "dwarf" themed painbringers) have a "Dwarf" proficiency added to them like longswords require Martial and/or Elf.

And... give dwarf characters the "Dwarf" weapon proficiency. It would have to be given at char level 2 for new characters, and edited in for already created dwarf PCs... but still.

Dwarves knowing how to use dwarven waraxes naturally!

Should other races get free proficiencies as well?

For things they should know, I don't see why not ...

And if we give all races free proficiencies, should elves get another boost to bring them back up to par, or would this be regarded as making all races as useful as elves in that regard?

In PnP (can't recall if it's 3.0 or just 3.5 rules) Orcs get double-sided weapon proficiencies for free, and Drow don't get the elf proficiency, but their own subset (shortswords, longswords, handcrossbows and shortbows rather than longsword, rapiers, short and long bows).

No other race gets their own proficiency though that I can recall. One or two of the subraces though, but Aenea uses it's own set of subraces, not the generic D&D sets.

For me, it's mostly the oddity of Dwarves not being able to use a dwarven waraxe by default, having to take the exotic weapons feat for it regardless of class.

I'd say maybe make it Warhammers and Dwarven Waraxes. That sounds rather dwarfish to me

Even though I don't play dwarves much, I like the warhammer and dwarven waraxe idea.

But I wouldn't go too far down that road and start making new bonus weapon proficiencies for different races ....

We humans are finally no longer second class citizens! We gots a bonus feat! We gots bonus skill points! What kind'a racial weapons would a human mage have available?

Hmm. That opens up a can'o worms. Should a halfling mage be trained in a sling? Should a dwarven mage be able to use a warhammer?

What I personally view as the best way may not even be possible in the engine ... give dwarven fighters a bonus exotic weapon feat only usable for dwarven waraxes or tag dwarven waraxes as a non-exotic martial weapon only for dwarves (and exotic to all others).

Na, not every race should get one. The dwarf proficiency though is something out of PnP though, and making NWN closer to PnP is always a good thing

Maybe an OnAquire Event that checks if the race picking them up is a dwarf and adding the temp prop of exotic weap prof to the PC ?... or similar... or some kind of 2da change...

It is odd to think that dwarves are not proficient in the weapon of their namesake... Untill it was mentioned in this thread I thought dwarves were automatically proficient in the Dwarven Waraxe... ...
