Dragon Pets Empty Dragon Pets

Was chatting with young DM Beowulf last night and we were talking about the 2 two types of dragon pets available.

I was wondering whether, adding to the RP flavour, whether it is possible via a DM to alter a dragons colour for a dragonsoul build

The dragonsoul gets to choose their colour and it would seem nice if they could then contact a DM to change their pets colour to match their build. Whether as a complete colour change or something similar to using rune paints as markings
