I think Ethereal Chests might be popular
Just to give everyone a visual, at the end of the defragmention of the server's HD tonight there was one file that could not be defragmented...everything in red is the database file just for the ethereal chests.
You'd think they were popular or something.

Re: I think Ethereal Chests might be popular
Guilty!.. I'm sure that between them my "clan" must account for at least a small percentage of that red block !

Re: I think Ethereal Chests might be popular
Probably very, very little. My guess is likely no more than 10-15 kb (just judging based on some of the largest item blueprint file sizes).MannyJabrielle wrote:I am curious has to how much each item in a chest is worth size wise on the disk.
Re: I think Ethereal Chests might be popular
Damn.... so even if every item were the larger, that's still just under 70,000 items packed away in the chests....
Just worked out the math, the *maximum* you can stuff an echest with is about 5,000 separate items, not including the containers themselves, or items "equipped" to the chest (cloak, 2 rings, boots, ect, including a belt of vials/belt of many pouches for an additional 35 inventory squares of storage....

Re: I think Ethereal Chests might be popular
I've been trying to whittle down my chest contents as I get upgrades done. I've already begun clearing out things for which I've finally become familiar enough with all the upgrades to know that those certain odd rare things won't be required. What am I ever going to use a balor skull for, after all?
Thank you for providing the echests, otherwise upgrades would be so much more difficult to assemble.

I haven't played a Necromancer here yet, so don't know if it's already available to them; but I think it would be cool if they could summon an undead balor with those skulls with the more powerful summon spells.

Fren perhaps has as many as 10K items in her chest. She uses gem pouches on the last two "blank" pages. That is unless you only count a stack of something as "1". If stacks aren't counted individually then shes probably closer to 3K.
Re: I think Ethereal Chests might be popular
Stacks are only counted as 1.
Each container holds 35 squares of inventory. 15 2x2 containers per inventory panel with 6 inventory panels of boxes, plus 60 gem ouches plus one container-belt equipped to the chest itself.... 5285 squares of storage space. Containers and pouches themselves count as 1 item, so add aother 151 to that, 5436, plus the other equip slots on the chest, 5448 item total per chest, assuming every item other than containers and "equiped" items are 1x1
Characters can hold much much more obviously with being able to stuff ALL panes of their inventory with gempouches rather than 2x2 containers.
12 equipped items, plus 359 pouches and one equiped container belt.... 12600 inventory squares of storage for 12972 items per PC. That's for a fighter or such with no other undroppable widgets/items besides the database item.

If you rename it an "Everything Miniaturized Pouch" then i guess that would be ok. But I'm still suspect!

Up to the character's weight limit, of course. Those bags have no weight reduction.
Even as generous with the storage space as has been, I think that we won't be seeing that limitation change.
BTW, I'm proud to say that both of my characters are now maintaining their personal inventories below 700 items (the limit around or above which that saving a character to local backup won't work).

Not true, just use flight, transference, and teleport for all of the PCs movement.
That'd be an interesting exercise.... lolz

That what makes people get into Wizardry; it's not the unlimited thirst for knowledge or anything like that, but to nullify the need for moving around by traditionally means.
Sorcerers on the other hand are born with the natural talent to be lazy.

I never realized that you could "equip" items to the chest's equipment slots ...thanks for that juicy tidbit, MannyJabrielle!MannyJabrielle wrote:Damn.... so even if every item were the larger, that's still just under 70,000 items packed away in the chests....
