The Amethyst Dragon are you using the AOE localized check system for all spells? Ive noticed that when anyone anywhere in aenea casts an aoe spell..the server lllaaaaggggsssss almost to a screeching halt. Reason i ask is that nwn the way its coded checks every single zone(active or not) to see if a creature needs a save. This isnt usually an issue with a single player game or just a multiplayer campaign as most of not all the players are in the same zone.

On a PW however with up to 10-20 players....if 3 wizards drop an ice storm or fireball..the game will chug to a halt. Its the same reason pw's modify the timestop spell so it dont timestop every single zone on the entire server.

This is why on nwn2 pw's didnt come about till players found a way to workaround the bad forgetful coding by the devs that didnt think to fix what they didnt do in the first nwn.

Just a player observation...thought id ask Smile

Wow... umm. Kefrem, if you are correct, and there is some Aenea-friendly way that The Amethyst Dragon can stop AoE spells from lagging the server, I will just want to hug you... or... well that could be awkward... so maybe buy you a kitten, that is... if you like kittens... or maybe a beer if thats more your deal...

but yeah... it would be SO incredibly nice to be able to drop a hellball on 30 enemies like it was intended, without lagging myself, and possibly everybody else, right off the server, or even crashing it outright.

My guess is that The Amethyst Dragon already did something like this... but my hope is that you're right and I am wrong.

Heh..well...beer isnt my thing....but i like kittens...a hot babe would be better though *grin*

But yea...we had to implement that on our server..and i know most if not all servers modify thier scripts to do that. I think it involves modifying the spellhook script(s) so they only check locally..and not server wide.

If The Amethyst Dragon has done this..then im not sure what is causing the lag...but my guess he didnt as every time an aoe is cast...and i know cause i think i caused the crash tonight with my staff of frosts ice storm and cone of cold, the lag gets as think as mud.

Its a simple fix too from what i remember...just one line needs to be changed so it checks only the current zone...not everywhere.
