Qusestion about a Troll

I am new around here and really enjoying my first time on multiplayer. OH, and thanks to all the friendly people willing to help out someone new.

I was on my way to Tradedome I think is the name, and happened upon a Troll on a bridge. I am a level 5 fighter. I worked him down to near death and he fell to the ground. I hit him again for 9 damage and he got up and was only wounded. I know trolls have regeneration, but that wasn't what was going on. He got knocked down many times and would heal a lot everytime.

I couldn't kill him and was out of potions so I ran back to the town I was just in because there were guards there. With three of us wacking at him, the same thing would happen. We couldn't kill him. Eventually he got us all. Is this normal? If it is, how do I deal with it?

Crap. I remember a similar discussion, but I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it. Oh, well, I'm sure someone will tell us. In the meantime, were you using a regular weapon against the troll? Their regeneration mechanism requires you to do so much in fire/acid damage to them before they will die ... if you don't, they'll stay near death, then hop back up and put the smack down! If you don't have access to acid/flame spells, there are many weapons throughout Aenea that have the fire/acidic properties on them. You've gotta save a fair amount of coin, but ultimately it's worth it.

My personal favorite troll-fighting tactic is invisibility! Everyone's happy then!

An excerpt from the main Aenea homepage about trolls:

"Why can't I kill trolls?

All forms of trolls have some nasty regeneration happening.

Normal damage from a weapon can knock a troll down, but it will soon get back up. That normal damage will never lead to the death of a troll...it isn't a "knock them down, then hit them with a little fire" situation...it is cumulative acid/fire damage that will lead to their death. They have to suffer their total healthy hitpoints in acid/fire damage to actually be killed.

Hope this clears things up...and instills a healthy respect for trolls...sometimes it's just better to run away"

Grab yerself a +1 flaming or acidic weapon when you have the coin and find the right shop, and hammer away till the bugger goes down permanently!
