Forge
The dwarf enhancements seem to be very popular. We all like to tweak and buff our gear to meet our character's needs/desires. One drawback of them is that it requires DM assistance... While we DMs can maintain some oversight on the items, it does require our attention to do. That's not necessarily a bad thing, I enjoy helping other players, but, I think the following suggestion would be beneficial as well for player satisfaction.
In the HotU campaign, the forge could enhance your weapon. Select a property from a predetermined list, pay up, get the enhancement. If the weapon was already very powerful, the forge wouldn't add the property.
Perhaps the mystic forge could be modified to provide some minor enhancements besides the BoM upgrades to weapons and armors? Certainly nothing as strong as voucher or dwarf enhancements. Perhaps a +3 or +4 boost to stats max, 1d6 damage max to one element, some misc. properties deemed appropriate... Properties readily available already on stock items, but allowing the players to fit them onto items with appearances they like already.
With the HotU forge, there was an exploit to allow you to add buffs to a weapon even when it would get the "this weapon is too powefull" message. That can easily be remedied here with the select tool. A check could be done as well to ensure that no item is buffed up with properties normally not allowed anyhow/buffed up too powerfully, or even limit a given item to one mystic forge enhancement.

OT: Really? You're going to have to point me in the direction to where I can learn about this :-)

Re: Forge
It's easy.... initiate the conversation with a cheap weapon in hand, go through the dialogue. RIGHT before the last dialogue response where the bonus is applied, swap out for the weapon you really want upgraded. The HotU forge checks the weapon in your hand and applies it to weapon currently in hand.

Re: Forge
To add to this Mystic Forge suggestion, perhaps both cloak and/or helmets could be added to the possible enhancement lists? This would allow anyone to gain a possible deflection AC bonus on a device of choice which may aid many characters.
If Shifters are present on Aenea, helm slots are of a higher priority than some other items, and this bonus offers more variety for the base item. Deflection AC is fairly common, so it should not be unbalancing and allow all characters more choices on what to select for Deflection.
