Holy Avenger Question

My new paladin just received her first custom item voucher, and I noted that the holy avenger property was restricted as something that had to be quested for. I was wondering, though; is it a particular weapon, or are you questing to have the ability added to a weapon you already have? Hoping for the latter, but if the former, are there multiple weapon types to choose from (i.e. longsword, halberd, hammer, etc.)?

Greatsword.

Right now, there is one type of holy avenger, and it's a greatsword...with a glowing white blade.

I may add more types in the future, but I'd want to write in quests to get them, just like with the one that's around.

I know I'm necro'ing here, an old 2009 post. But this is the only post on the topic and I didn't want to start a new thread on a topic already being discussed.

I am currently thinking about bringing back an old class build of mine to try out on the server, but  the class has Paladin levels, and when I used to use it a long time ago (Back when I played 5+ years ago) it was a class designed to use the Holy Avenger.

But... I don't think you have Holy Avenger Kama's... Or do you? Have there been more Holy Avengers added? If so, what types are there now?

*Edit* A way to add variety to the Holy Avenger weapon selection might just be that it tags your character to be taken to a chest, just like for the timed rewards. Where it has 1 of each weapon type as a holy avenger. You select 1, and the chest vanishes. I don't know how the quest works to get the current one. But if my suggestion fits, simple solution.

Adding Magic to Existing Items

You'll need to find a 21st (or higher level) cleric of Dalix (player) that can enchant items (or you can start casting holy sword).

There is at least one existing holy avenger in the game, but it's a greatsword.

Wow.. I'm really loving all the options the new PIES system gives.. so many little cases of "that would be cool having a character just for that"...

It is a shame that paladins cannot perform this deed, having a spell better suited to the purpose. However this has been covered in another thread previously (scroll down a few posts) and while Paladins serve and follow Dalix and can channel her righteous fury for a brief time (see the spell below) only her devout Clergy can infuse that very same power into metal.


Or you can cast Holy Sword , the 4th Level Paladin spell over and over again. (This gives the weapon held in the Paladins Main Hand the Holy Avenger property temporarily, so unfortunately no dual-wielding this way). But the neat advantage is you can get this spell on a custom item (I believe it comes under Offensive/Disabling spells over 3rd level - So 5/day limit), to save on spell slots (You could also create a custom item with a Paladin 5th Level slot so that you could cast an extended version if prepared! ~ this was news to me, thank-you NWNWiki ! )

I believe an x Paladin/21 Cleric build could enchant their own weapon to be a Holy Avenger, too. Just requires you to be willing to incorporate Cleric levels + a crafting feat* into your paladin build.

*Optional if you uses a custom voucher to get an item with the crafting feat.

Doable. Neither class gets any bonus feats, so may want to consider putting that crafting feat on a voucher item.

Or go for 23 or 24 cleric (which ever is the first bonus epic feat). More caster levels is good, and it really won't hurt the paladin levels. Question is how soon do you want the avenger enchantment? Go late as possible to squeeze in every possible BAB advance pre-epic, or suck up a few points and go 4 paladin pre-epic for APR, and then focus on cleric until whenever.

Can't you save an item when you reincarnate? Save your holy avenger and reincarnate without cleric.
