Nice! I'm kind of hoping Beyondthepale uses an alternate username so nobody actually knows it's him and acts normally like the great players y'all are.
Re: Company Coming
Awwww yeah! We look forward to the visit! And you're right, , we'll behave ... although, just as a precaution, mayhaps you should temporarily remove carnivorous chickens from the toolset...

Re: Company Coming
From emails with BeyondThePale, it looks like he's going to be having a tour led by this here local purple dragon.
I know there are a bunch of things that I plan on showing him. I'd also like to know what you think would make good points of interest (creatures, places, items, etc.), from a player's perspective. Go ahead and post your suggestion(s) in this thread, and I'll combine your ideas with mine to work out a tour route/schedule.
hehe... I mentioned the impending visit to my wife (who isn't into NWN or computer gaming at all), and she was happy that Aenea will be getting attention from someone important from a popular community site.

First stop, attemping to jump lava...
Second stop, The " bee hives"... that's some awesome eye-ray scripting..
Third Stop, A troll anywhere... armed only with a 1d4 fire dagger... ((oh! sorry, he's only got three hours better not take up all his time))..
Fourth stop, Calithia.. the way the desert sands have swept in there should impress anyone...
5th... Go underwater somewhere.. possibly the Celestan Ocean... it's by far the largest underwater area..
6th.. Take a boat trip from Macedone to Alathia and WALK back to Zentina... stopping by the Mistborne Swamp of Mists....
Get a small group following of players and chuck some stuff their way, so he can see how the playerbase get along with each other, and witness firsthand all the multi-tude of changes and tweeks that you have done to bring each and every class from NwN to DnD 3.0..... ....

My thoughts.
Show him the Living Sky.
Show him the ioun stones.
Show him how levitate works but is restricted.
Show him your custom spells, Teleportation spells first and foremost, also ones like cleave health and Luminous' redeeming flames, also the additional elemental weapon damages spells.... and please please, show him disintegrate (my favorite! )
Show him the wanderer's portal quest.
Show him the Prophecy Quest.
Show him Ascension.
Show off the goblin, undead, orc, troll and ogre models. Maybe the dragon ones too if theyre fixed.
Show him spectras and sronj's.
Show him the reward chests, and also the player housing (feel free to show him Kefrem's great work in Crid's Sanctum)

Re: Company Coming
Actually, the Prophesy Quest would be an excellent way of demonstrating most of what the server has to offer.
You could lead him around Aenea via the many transportation spells and devices, and have him assemble the weapon of Prophesy fairly quickly. The Ioun stones, player controlled items, VC interaction, Flight, etc could be demonstrated within the quickly told story, thus turning a lecture into something more player driven.
And on top of this like whipped cream and sprinkles, the Reward System could be illuminated at both the 1hr and 2 hr points thus showing off one of the greatest features offered here, IMO.

Re: Company Coming
Yes, yes, all great ideas! I would highlight specific areas and devices that are unique to Aenea - like dave mentioned, spectras and sronjis comes to mind, as well as the head-merchant and the cosmic balance. Maybe the BoM forge as well, and perhaps the Maker - any of the areas that allow players to specially customize their PCs. And as RustyDios pointed out, the underwater areas are pretty cool ... and how about a little trip to Limbo? One of my favorite places to hang out! (as a DM, anyways!) dave also mentioned Ascension - I wouldn't forget reincarnation, for that's a nice total of, what, 120 levels to play for each PC?
I dunno. I haven't seen enough of this world to give a weighted answer, but these lists are excellent suggestions!

OOOOOh OOOOOOh OOOOOOh! I'd say a gander at the "flame-on" magic weapons are a must! I haven't used on in awhile, but I surely did enjoy turning the effects on and off! And the trident and the staff, and the wizard's dagger (if it's fixed)...
And perhaps a quick game of Wizard Checkers is in order...
Oh, yeah, one more thing ... any idea when the tour will happen?

Re: Company Coming
Not yet. Just a couple of emails back and forth so far, and the exact time/date is yet to be decided, since it's a matter of coordinating BeyondThePale's schedule and my own.Eric of Atrophy wrote:Oh, yeah, one more thing ... any idea when the tour will happen?
I am getting quite a list of things going to "show off", and these suggestions are helping. Once I'm mostly satisfied with my list, I'll probably do a little scripting for the tour (to make pulling in items and jumping to different locations quick and easy). I'm looking forward to it.
Re: Company Coming
Will the tour be taking place player-player or DM-DM or DM-player....
I'm just asking because I think one of the really cool things to happen would be for BeyondThePale to log-in, go through PC creation , wait for the leto-updates to complete... and be told to meet you in the mineshaft.. (you could tell him how to get there, and the shaft demonstrates that not everything can be seen, pop-up flavour text, swim and jump points (with the jumping animation).... and then whilst he is down there waiting around for you... cue ..
Your DM Avatar dropping in unexpectedly and saying "Hello" is one of the scariest/most memorable experiences I have... ... in comes this this huge awesome dragon, and it talks! (so stop trying to attack the DM/Creator before he DM-kills ye)....
I also thnik the unique properties of the subrces should be showed, such as the moonlight bonuses of wolfbloods, and the daylight damage from the sun (and note it goes away in rainy weather)...
I can see this being a loooonnnngggg list of stuff to do in three hours.... Aenea has and always will have sooo much stuff to offer everybody, of any given taste.. .. .. ...
If I've said it once, I'll say it a thousand times... I salute you , this world is the best out there..

Re: Company Coming
hehe... The "three hour tour" title comes from the fact he's going to three different (NWN1) PWs and spending 1 hour at each. That gives me only about 50 minutes for the tour and 10 minutes for Q&A at the end. Not much time at all.RustyDios wrote:I can see this being a loooonnnngggg list of stuff to do in three hours....
I'll have him create a character and start in the inn, then I'll give him a bunch of XP and some of the cooler items (like a hat of disguise, headband of intellect, 6 different ioun stones, a cestus, etc.) before doing scripted jumps directly to the places/creatures I want to show off. It's going to be a fast-paced tour just to get some things in.
Re: Company Coming
In that case, be sure to give the interactive map and the Big Book of Towns. Common enough here, but far more unique than other servers I have seen. Even the disguises do not make me as happy as seeing a filled map with pins, or having a safe place to consider next movements.

Re: Company Coming
Did the tour this morning.
It went pretty well. He had a lot of basic questions (about things like subraces, deities, player base, etc.). More questions as the tour went on.
I was able to show off a lot of locations (about two dozen), some of the more unique items (he really seems to like the hat of disguise, cesti, and the little dragon skull shield), and a few critters (like scrags and cinder trolls, and Shaun).
Ran out of time before I was able to show off everything on my list. *sigh* I do know that he took at least one screenshot, while outside the dome at Icedome.
Overall, I thought it went very well.

Re: Company Coming
I have, of course, already lifted a short quote from the start of the article for the main page of the Aenea website.
The semi-perfectionist in me already wants to make minor corrections to the article (such as a missing "not" when talking about dressing in brown rags and a spelling error "fist" should be "first")... .
Not a bad little article, considering how short the tour really was.
