Idea for New Area (SKY)
I have an Idea for a NEW AREA. I thought of it when I saw all these Winged creatures around. A majority of them are Avariel (Winged-Elves).How about a few Areas in the sky where you can only get to by Flying. Maybe a new village in the clouds that are home to the Rare Avariel race. Winged elves love flying and hate being underground or on theground for to long. It's quite hard to RP being a winged creature when you just walk around all the time! Heh. The sky's the limit!I was told that it is possible to do, but it may be buggy and hard to get to look right.

Re: Idea for New Area (SKY)
The constant flying effect would be hard, but a mountaintop or floating city might be possible.
Oh, and they're just winged elves, with similar ancestry to winged humans and half-elves (which could be anything bird/celestial/druid/paladin related...there isn't really a "winged race"...the winged ones are usually just oddballs). Avariel are a Forgotten Realms thing...like drow that worship a spider goddess.

I like this idea! There are many creatures that could specifically be found in such areas, and mountaintop cities and cloud palaces can be placed here and there by avian beings, spellcasters, and clerics of typhis.

Re: Idea for New Area (SKY)
I like this idea... maybe it could be an area reached from the peaks of the Crystalbreeze Mt... ...
Tileset wise it'll be a mountain/cliff like area.. set with thick white fog to mimic clouds.. and white area lighting... constant wind effects blowing through soundwise ... .I think this could work quite well...

Re: Idea for New Area (SKY)
And we could add a few "Wilderness" areas for *gasp* EPIC players....
By that point, chances are you've already found a book of flight or ten, so getting around shouldnt be a problem.
Or you can put in jump points from place to place... failure resulting in instant death from the fall
But either way, we need some areas that challenge epic characters. Currently my cleric can smack down almost anything around without a problem. It'd be nice for that to change so that I can find a challenge aside from DM events.

this could actually be dealt with in a separate thread, but I CAN tell you is already working on at least one, maybe more epic level areas....
The Abyss should be a lot of fun

Re: Idea for New Area (SKY)
I think I'm the one who told Alundaio a sky area might be possible. Here's a screenie of an area I'm playing with in a little project of my own. I use the "flying" phenotypes in the CEP which A.D. does not use as far as I know at this point, and which may be hard to introduce, but if you don't it looks a little funny walking around in the clouds. Its far from perfect as things like knockdown look a little odd. Still kind of cool.

Re: Idea for New Area (SKY)
problem is, the phenotypes seldom work with 'fat' chars (i.e. when in another animation-phenotype, you appear as slim). i would prefer a cloudy flying city like mentioned above.
i think there are some old flying ships around allready (with baloons as sails i think, might have to check the midwinter series)

Re: Idea for New Area (SKY)
I'm not sure what you mean by "phenotype's seldom work with fat chars". The large size IS a phenotype and the CEP provides both normal and large flying phenotypes (as well as the normal and large horse riding phenotypes.) The large "flying" phenotypes work fine for all the normal character models including the brownie models. The altered combat animations may be an issue, but they do not currently appear to work with large phenotypes anyway, as I always seem to get "You are too husky!" message when I try to use them with large phenotypes in Aenea. Besides, one could make the argument that combat styles like stealth and heavy don't make much sense anyway when your flapping around 1000 feet off the ground There are many other issues though I'm sure with adding a new set of phenotypes. There is a fair amount of coding required to insure the right phenotype get set on certain area transistions, that they dont get mixed up with horses (but ok with pegasus?), deciding who can actually do them, and so on. An area like RustyDios proposed would be much easier to implement quickly. The airship models are in the extended tiles in CEP, Kefrem posted a pic of one on the desert tileset above.

Re: Idea for New Area (SKY)
I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think migrated the ACP to different phenotype numbers when he added it to Aenea... without migration, the ACP overwrites the flying phenotype I think

Re: Idea for New Area (SKY)
Yep... your completely right Manny... I just looked a the 2da files... assassin style is in slot 16 where the flying phenotype was in CEP. So getting it to work would require twiddling with the 2da files as well.
