Organizing Spell Lists
I have a general question, not specific to Aenea.
As spellcasters add spells to their repertoire, the spells are amended to the bottom of their known spell lists (at least for Wizards).
This can be confusing (for me), and I sometimes forget what I have. It would be nice if I could think of the spell I want to memorize, go to the spell book, and find it lexicographically instead of searching the whole list of spells.
Does anyone know if there is a way of alphabetizing spell lists?

Re: Organizing Spell Lists
Yes.. and in Aenea it's not too difficult....
Learn every spell you can as you level up.... then scribe a scroll of all them spells (so you end having a full spell list - ask around for help ).. then use the re-levellers... log out and give it a few minutes... log back in and level up.. you're spellbook *should* be clear .. ((this may only work if your first class ISN'T wizard -- it worked for Grace (( Clr / Wiz )) .. )) ...
You'll need to still pick your first 4-5 spells each level but the rest you can then learn as you level up....
Alternatively you'll need some small bags (roughly 1 bag for each spell level and extra bags for levels 2-5) ... gather your next spell level of spells in scroll form and then when you level up pick the first spells from the list and then just keep adding (leaning) them after you level... ((with this method you can even cancel levelling up to check you have all the availiable spells in scroll form - you even get an opertunity to RP "having a mentor and learning your spells off a better wizard!" )).... .... doing this route you can also "group" spell types together (like all the standard buffs, bull str, fox cunning etc etc ) ..... all depends on what you learn and the order you learn it.... ..... ....

Hey Rusty, thanks! That might be useful in the future.
Alas, 1st level is Wizard for the PC I'm thinking of. But for the next PC .

Re: Organizing Spell Lists
Best Trick I know of is to just slowly memorize what level each spell is in.... over time you will retain what spells are where.

Well, there is that . But that sounds like investing effort.

Re: Organizing Spell Lists
Casters take a little more effort to master... but once you do, the play experience rewards the effort.
Even in PnP maintaining a spell list, and for a wizard, also a memorization list is extra work... but when you get good at it... when you know what spell is good when, and you have the ones you need when you need them... and you use them correctly... its like a symphony.

Re: Organizing Spell Lists
Oh sure, they are a rewarding class to play. When 3.0 came out, I played a Wizard for several years to good effect, and he still is one of my favorite PCs to date. I spent a great deal of time scouring the material*, crunching numbers, and maximizing potential rewards for particular spell combinations and their uses.
But I always typed up my spells, per level, in alphabetical order, along with my 3x5 cards**.
* Even <shudder> Forgotten Realms sources.
* I couldn't expect the DM to memorize what every spell I had did - they were mostly for his convenience.

PnP: Excel tables. Easy to alphabetize, easy to sort by spell level. Short and sweet mechanics, with a reference page number for those more "complicated" spells like dispel magic.Svair wrote:But I always typed up my spells, per level, in alphabetical order, along with my 3x5 cards**
I've played a few mages over the years in PnP.
Unfortunately, NWN doesn't work as easily as the tabletop game for either organizing or customizing. But it is the closest thing there is on the computer.
Oh, and more spells are in the works for mages and priests.

There were some great fan made Excel docs that did wonders in the early days. Calculated spell DCs, determined range, showed duration, etc...all you had to do is inter your PC's details (ability scores, feats, and whatnot.)

Oh, I'm not complaining. I miss the subtle impact of a discreet spell in the right circumstance that NWN (or likely any current DnD game) could never replicate, but I'm happy overall with what NWN is. I'm still playing :-)

Re: Organizing Spell Lists
I believe Divine casters get access to all the spells on that lvl, so they may already be alphabetized.

Might be good idea to first fix the existing broken cleric spells which I reported some time ago.
