Druid Wildshape Expansion (March 24, 2010) Empty Druid Wildshape Expansion (March 24, 2010)

Post by The Amethyst Dragon Wed Mar 24, 2010 6:41 pm

Druids now have the ability to pick from an expanded list of animal forms (currently 36 forms, rather than just 5).

This ability makes use of the VC command system, using ;;ws xxxxxx commands. The commands for changing will function only if you have remaining uses of the Wildshape feat (Greater Wildshape or the various other "shape" feats do not apply).

;;ws help - get an in-game mini help list
;;ws list - list all the possible animal forms and the codes needed for them

The older radial menu/icons can still be used with the normal animal shapes if you want to still use them.

Unlike the default forms, the newer forms do not advance to "dire" (or more powerful) forms when the druid reaches 12th level. These newer forms may also have one or more skill bonuses or benefits, since many of them have low physical ability scores and not all grant the 10 extra hitpoints the default forms give.

Some specific information on each form:

Do the creatures such as scorpions and snakes have poison-attacks?

Do winged creatures have the ability to fly?

Do the "insect" creatures have mind-immunity like their respective normal versions?

Do any of the creatures have innate weaknesses (i.e. -50% fire resistance)

Do the creatures such as scorpions and snakes have poison-attacks?

I think the scorpion form does. The snake one might. I'll have to test
in-game (it's been a few days since I added the creature weapons/skins
to the polymorph.2da file).

Do winged creatures have the ability to fly?

No. But they do have an increased movement rate. They look like they're flying, but don't get the benefit that those with the Winged subrace get.

Do the "insect" creatures have mind-immunity like their respective normal versions?

No. The racial type for all of these is "animal", since I figured there should be a similarity for all of them. The only ones with mind-immunity are the bovines (cow, bison, ox).

Do any of the creatures have innate weaknesses (i.e. -50% fire resistance)

Only the tortoise, with it's severely reduced movement rate.

These are really just meant to give some variety for druids, who've been stuck with the same 5 animal forms since 2002. Razz Not many of the forms are particularly good for combat (except the big cats), and the ones that are don't really have any added effects like the non-combat ones get.

Hmm, it would be nice to have a white/winter wolf and a dire version of it. I'm sure the CEP came with dire version for the majority of the non-farm animals present actually... didn't it?

Yeah, I actually forgot all about these. Makes Druid seem far more appealing, and makes for some excellent multiclassing shenanigans. Like a Druidic Assassin who becomes a snake and then Death Attacks people.
