Weapon enhancement crystals
Two questions really, what kinds of crystals are available (I have seen extra damage crystals, are Keen, Regen, Vamp Regen, extra atk, enhancement, ability also available?)
Second question, where would they tend to be most likely to drop?

Re: Weapon enhancement crystals
I dont really want to ruin the experience of exploring and discovery ahead of you, but I will share that the common energy types are available (fire, cold, shock, acid, sonic).
There is also a rare crystal that gives keen.
As of this moment, there are no regen/vamp regen or extra attack/haste/cleave crystals.
There is a way to add permanent enhancement to a melee weapon... however, you must find the place first, and then collect the items needed in the proper amounts. It is not easy to do, but it can be done.

Re: Weapon enhancement crystals
Ye, not looking for too much information, but I needed to know a couple of things before I start choosing player rewards, so I can make good choices. (IE, if I can get a keen crystal, I can get maybe a +4 sword, with 4 Vamp Regen, and add Keen and fire and acid later with crystals). Otherwise, I am going to waste one of a kind awards, or at least not use them to best adavantage.)
Speaking of player rewards, can water breathing be added to player armor, and if so, what equivalent GP cost should I leave for it, I didn't see adding it as an option in the player module.......

Re: Weapon enhancement crystals
I was thinking of creating a new thread but i thought i'd use this one for my question.
I have two crystal that give fire damage to weapons. Can i use two fire crystal in the same weapon, thus, enhancing my weapong two times?

Re: Weapon enhancement crystals
No. If you use two of the same crystal on an item, the effect will be listed twice in the tiem's properties, but the game engine will ignore the duplicate porperty.
You can use a variety of different crystals on one item, however, and that will work fine.

Re: Weapon enhancement crystals
Are you absolutely, positively certain about that, daveyeisley? I could be wrong (have been before, and will be again), but I believe that Sta'stillen has inflicted, say, fire damage that goes above and beyond the bonus range of a single crystal. Then again, I may have been seeing things!daveyeisley wrote:No. If you use two of the same crystal on an item, the effect will be listed twice in the tiem's properties, but the game engine will ignore the duplicate porperty.

Re: Weapon enhancement crystals
On a critical hit, the bonus damage from the crystal's applied property will be multiplied by the weapons critical multiplier...
that is how you probably saw fire damage more than 4 points.
I tried multiple crystals very early on, and they never stacked.

Re: Weapon enhancement crystals
Hey, a quick question to the powers that be ...
If someone has a weapon, let's say a sword, that has more than one of the same type of enhancement crystal, would it be possible for said person to have said double crystal removed from said weapon and said person receive a refund of said crystal?
Hope y'all followed that (I lost myself several times)!

Re: Weapon enhancement crystals
Unfortunately, no. The crystals apply permanent properties, which can't then be removed easily.
Re: Weapon enhancement crystals
Ok, I can dig that ... how about a 'take the item from me, re-create it without the unnecessary crystals applied, then give it back to me'?
I don't even really care about getting the extra crystals back, but for aesthetic purposes, now that I know the extra crystals don't do anything, their presence will bug the heck outta me!

Wait, what? What are you looking at? Perhaps you should look at whatever is in whatever you're drinking, Grog!

Re: Weapon enhancement crystals
Two things, Amethyst!
daveyeisley took care of my sword issue - you've got a great crew of assistant DMs, if I do say so myself!
Second question - can enhancement crystals be applied to the armor of the redeemed? Kaliria Andressat applied four, and they seemed to work fine, but were gone upon server reset. I'm refunding the crystals to her, but perhaps a fix is order?

Re: Weapon enhancement crystals
I spoke with kaliria last night before passing out at my keyboard
It seems the trigger in the sleeping dragon that was updating the armor of the redeemed (replaced my barbarian's armor as well) was the culprit. I am pretty sure the trigger was designed to only activate once, and once the PC has the new armor, it would not affect them anymore. Just to be safe, I had Kali go back to the sleeping dragon with the new armor equipped and make sure the trigger didnt go off again.
I am not sure how that test played out, as I fell asleep.
Regardless, it seems that rust monsters are a bit... overpowered... as they apparently are able to totally destroy highly magical armors like the Armor of the Redeemed, as well as items which are not even made out of metal, and worse, even unique *custom items* can be destroyed by rust monsters. Poor kaliria fell victim to the rust monsters and ended up losing several pieces of gear.
My personal opinion is that rust monsters should be an inconvenience, sure... but... due to how close the spawns are to the PC in every place I have seen them, running away usually doesnt even work.
With it being as hard as it is to get away from them (especially when there are 4 or more of them hot on your heels) and the fact that sometimes running will force new enemies to spawn in your path (meaning that even if you are faster than the rust monsters, you will most likely end up cornered) I dont feel rust monsters should *permanently* destroy magical gear.
I think it should be unequipped, maybe even have the PC forced to drop the item on the ground so they cant easily re-equip it and will need to pick it back up. Non magical items are what the rust monster was designed to destroy anyways.

Re: Weapon enhancement crystals
Yes, I lost my Armor of the Redeemed (with a set of crystals), my Nightbane mace (enhanced, plus a full set of crystals), and my plain ol' helm.
Mind you, I am not complaining. No one ever said that adventuring would be (or should be) easy. I was able to recover most of it in short order (with thanks to Jay for his help), and the net loss was just that my mace is no longer enchanted and I will need to re-earn the BoMs in order to redo the enchantment.
It just caught me by surprise, because I saw the message about the red dust, but I didn't know what it meant until I ended up caught between a pack of rusties and a pack of just respawned mummy lords. I could have escaped in some fashion, except Jay was with me, and... not fully aware at that moment, and I wasn't going to abandon him. So I killed all of the rusties with a Flamestrike, and then turned to the mummies, only to realize I was practically naked and had no weapon.
All in all, a memorable encounter.
