The big hive Illithid Brain..

On the night of 16th Aug 08 at 01:18 GMT a group of four brave souls were getting lost in the underdark and happened upon a colony of Illithids.. Filthy things they had to be taken care of..

Grog, Silmaria, Bowen and I desended into the depths untill we came upon the hive brain.. we tried fighting it melee to no avail and found that it stripped us collectively of 689,000 and a bit xp.. so we gave up and seeked shelter in the adjacent room.. we noticed that the xp drain does not occour there and proceded to very slowly kill the now uber powerful brain.. eventually we succeeded and were rewarded with 15,000 xp to pay off a 689,000 debt.. after this 15,000 xp had drained away we were given a further 15,000 xp to drain at this debt.. then nothing.. it stopped .. ..

..The question is this.. when the brain dies do you get all your xp back it sucked away?..

.. if yes we four are owed a lot of xp..

.. if not Jay still owes 53,149 thats half of my current level.. and I think Grog mentioned his xp debt still being in the 300,000 mark or "just under his career in Aenea".. .. this one encounter has destroyed everything these poor adventurers have put into thieir career so far and world be a huge undertaking to pay off with no help.. might as well give up on pc advancement .. I find this most un-friendly and to date the only thing I have been truely angered or dissappointed in aenea with.. I can't speak for the other three but I guess they feel the same..

Yeah surely this is a mistake?!,our reward for finally killing the abberation was crippling xp debt and two potions?!,i mean kill me yeah but (in grogs case )being penalised 23 lvl,s of xp! Wow man thats harsh!

As for numbers for me, I had just hit level 7 (21,000xp) when Jay and co. invited me to tag along. The kill of the brain brought me to the required xp for level 8 (28,000xp), but when I tried to level up, I was hit with an error message.

Long story short, I had accumulated 21,000xp debt, and it started paying it off right away. As everyone above said, it seemed fishy that the reward for killing it was merely a third of what it drained from me (I was lucky because I was so low level, poor Grog and Jay ).

It is a fight with an interesting mechanic, but penalizing someone trying to explore and learn that fight up to their maximum xp (essentially requiring them to re-level their character before they can advance) seems abnormally harsh.

No offense, guys, but I'm glad I missed out on that battle! Kudos to you for killing the brain, though!

The brain gives you XP Debt equal to 1% of the minimum for your current level every round. Warning messages are given about this every round.

The elder brain requires tactics that don't include running up and hitting with a melee weapon.

Here's where the bug came in, which I am going to fix:

When you kill it, it gives each party member back what you lost, up to the amount needed for the next level (based on your current xp, not based on xp debt). It currently doesn't take into account people that hang close to it long enough to rack up more xp than is needed for an entire level...which will be fixed soon (when I make it check xp debt before current xp).

The person that actually kills it gets back what they lost, plus a bonus.

It were all the fault of that hideous, squiggly, squishy, monstrosity.

It were that thing wut drove us into a murderous rage, blindin us ter our surroundings and the effect they were havin on us.

The four of us were down ter eath, calm, peaceful lovin folks... who wouldn't hurt a fly...

Nae it was the fault of having four mad nutters in a room with the big squishy thing.. wacking it like idiots and paying nae attention to the little combat log that were telling us just how much our brains be getting liquidated and oozing out our ears... i thought the normal thid brain sucking was bad
.. but nae bother now that big god-like dragon has got all me brains in a bowl made em solid and rammed em back in me head.. many thanks..
.. maybe we go get that brain again sometime from a distance this time just to say ner we know what ye do and what ye are and ye not sucking away today..
.. plus i like killing big squishy things...

on a side note I think the visual for the brain is looking a little "barrier of force"/"tenser's disc" blue ... which were fine.. we knew we were hitting sum thin'... just thought I'd let the god-dragon know...
