Help Wanted for Small Website Project
So...who's bored and has some spare offline computer time?
I'm adding the functionality tonight sometime for players to change characters' voice sets in-game, and I think the webpage that lists the 167 possible sets could use one or two samples for each (so players can get a feel for them before changing them in-game). The only problem with this is...I don't have the time to extract/rename all the .wav files from the game resources.
If you are interested in taking on part or all of this volunteer task, here's what's involved:
1. Download/install NWN Explorer Reborn (if you don't already have it).
2. Download and open aenea_soundset.txt, which lists the ID numbers of the voice sets and the RESREF sound set file (.ssf) of each voice set.
3. Open NWN Explorer Reborn. Use Ctrl S to open the small search box at the bottom left of the screen. Enter the RESREF file name and hit Enter.
4. Look under the Sound column of the file displayed for the filenames of the *_bat1.wav (and perhaps the *_hi.wav) file for that voice set.
5. Use Ctrl S again, this time adding in the filename(s) of the desired sound files.
6. For each file found in the search, right-click and Export the .wav file to a folder on your computer. As you export them, rename the file(s) as ID_bat1.wav (and maybe ID_hi.wav) (replacing "ID" with the actual ID number from the text file, so I can easily add them to the webpage).
7. When done, you can send the sound files to me (you can compress the files in .zip, .rar, or .7z format if you like)...
A) as email attachments
OR
B) via FTP:
ftp.amethyst-dragon.com
Username: aeneaplayers
Password: aenea_num_1
If one or more people take on this not-difficult-but-rather-tedius task, you'd have my thanks and the thanks of any players not wanting to take the really long process of testing the voice sets in-game (which would involve looking at the webpage, picking a set, using the ID in the VC command in-game, getting booted and waiting a few moments while the Letoscript code modifies the character file, logging back in, then testing out the voice set in-game in order to hear even one sound from it, then repeating the whole process if the player doesn't actually want that voice set...).

My time is a trifle too limited to jump on this at current....

I think I may get started on this, if that's still viable?

Re: Help Wanted for Small Website Project
, when you have a chance, please confirm you got the 7zip file and can open and browse the .wavs inside it? I have them all backed up and can resend if needed. I just want to be sure you have what you need before I clear them out.

Re: Help Wanted for Small Website Project
Just got the file (haven't had a chance to look inside yet). Thanks!
Edit: Something wrong with the archive (won't open with 7zip).

Re: Help Wanted for Small Website Project

Re: Help Wanted for Small Website Project
Well, apparently that was 3 hours of work down the toilet.... apparently none of the extracted .wav files will playback any audio.
I followed your instructions.... I have no idea what went wrong. Is NWN explorer's extraction not compatible with windows 7?
It seemed like it was working, but when I double click each file, it opens up windows media player and the progress bar moves left to right... but no audio... and I was periodically testing the files in NWN explorer by clicking the "play" button, too... so I know there was audio originally.... something must have gotten borked in the extraction....

Yeah, Just retested... NWN explorer can play the audio from within its window... but as soon as I export, the files wont play at all... do you get this same issue?

Re: Help Wanted for Small Website Project
OK.... so.... apparently..... if I open the extracted .wav files in a regular media player, they dont work.... but if I use NWN explorer to open them, they play just fine....
I am rezipping them and resending the archive now.

Re: Help Wanted for Small Website Project
OK, I deleted the old 7zip archive.
I uploaded the new one.
I have tested the new archive by extracting one of the wave and playing it from NWNexplorer. Still no idea why regular media player cant play it.

Re: Help Wanted for Small Website Project
Thanks, Dave! I'll dig into these tonight to see if I can get them to work.
Re: Help Wanted for Small Website Project
If you do get them to work, I would be very interested in knowing how/why... please share
