Item Update Anvil
This anvil is a bane for packrats attempting to check on a custom item...
With Jay it consistently throws up a "updateitems OID FFFFFF76 tag , ERROR TOO MANY INSTRUCTIONS" ... and "fix_pc OID 80001400 tag anvil ERROR TOO MANY INSTRUCTIONS" ....
Then the script seems to break and not complete (ie, no further messages), and the anvil appears to only be usable once ... ..
Can it check for custom items first and then check for update items ? ...
Ultimately is there a way to prevent the error for packrats ? ....

I was actually wondering if it would be possible to perhaps have a separate anvil for custom items, particularly for those of us packrats paranoid about accidentally losing an item upgraded by the Dwarf / Maker?
Or if not that, what about an in-game item that one can use on an upgraded item to set a variable or some such that causes the update code to 'skip over' it; maybe sold by Bluebeard (for an exorbitant price, naturally)?

Perhaps a new DM tool command to set that when we DMs can do when we do the upgrade.

I think a separate anvil for custom items would be great.
I also like the idea of being able to set items that have been upgraded to "not replaceable". A DM command is probably the best way to go for this one, or even better, simply an edit to the ;;dmt item addpropp and the ;;dmt item copyprops commands to set the variable in question automatically.
As for the anvils themselves, I would like them to be placed somewhere that PCs can get to, even after transitioning to the SDI. A few times I myself have forgotten to use the anvil to try and restore Blink's subrace stuff (I remembered to use it after Manny restored my subrace feat and it looks like I have the effects, but my character sheet says 'reincarnated halfling'). Also the anvils ought to be usable more than once per reset.
If the anvils are located somewhere more accessible, like maybe inside Arkon's, or Bluebeard's Tower, then PCs don't have to worry about forgetting, etc. As they can go there whenever they wish to check for custom items, regular item updates, or subrace update/replacements.

Given their function, the SDI would be a good place if they are moved. It's where everyone pops into from the conjunction afterall.

Or they could be located behind Antonis at the Temple of Asis in the Vale, as that would also help subrace'd PCs who have died and lost their subrace effects/bonuses and then use the dais to come back to life.
Not sure what could be done for subraced PCs who use Zolaras' Gift tokens, wear Soul Anchor Boots, or get Raise Dead/Resurrection cast on them.
Heck.... couldn't we just do a VC command for "fixing" subrace stuff?
And in that train of thought.... a VC command could be used to check for custom items, too...

How about a multi-purpose vc fix command?
Something like ;;tool pcfix - runs the horse fix, shadowchild concealment fix (forget what it's vc command is offhand, the one that properly restores concealment after affected by faeriefire & glitterdust) appfix, and a subrace/R&A fixes all in one command? If any other "fixes" should be needed in the future, instead of giving them a separate VC command, just put them into this general fix command

Or, if moving the anvils to another place is being pursued, I would offer that Darla should get them, in addition to a much-needed overhaul of her area and offerings as well. (Aw, c'mon, give the lady her own area ... she deserves it!)

Back to the topic of this thread, can the item update process allow for a PC to use the anvil more than once?
Of if not, then allow for giving a PC more than one custom item if they have more than one coming to them?
Some folks, like me, don't submit items right when they get a voucher. I make up a few items all at once and submit them in a group. Its a bummer when I use the anvil, and only get 1 out of 4 items I have coming to me.
(I am also gonna need one of my fellow DMs to lend a hand if the server doesnt reset 3 more times before somebody is available... sigh)
