So, rangers are all about knowing creatures so well that they can fight better against them (favored enemies, Bane of Enemies).

So...should rangers get the Creature Lore feat as a free bonus feat sometime? Seems to make sense and fit with them thematically, at least the way I view them. Like, "I've seen things like this before, and here's their weakness", but it's not as permanent a knowledge as the reflexive muscle memory for favored enemies would be.

I like this idea .... Around lv13 or lv18 seems like a good place to slot this in.. no other abilities gained in those area's and his would also seem like a point in the Rangers career when they have done enough "creature studying" in their spare time to be able to think of some possible weakness for any enemy ...

I would say lower, simply because the feat when taken regularly has such a low requirement (2 or 3 lore?). That and the feat itself doesn't offer any bonus without a decent investment into the lore skill.

Agreed, lower would be better. Perhaps level 5 or 6.

Doesn't this kinda step on the toes of the favoured enemy ability? That is the culmination of the ranger's studying.

That said, I would love to see rangers get the Nature sense feat.

Creature Lore uses a character's knowledge of various enemy types (ie. Lore Skill) to grant a small, temporary attack bonus against one creature type. No class currently gains this feat for free.

Favored Enemy grants damage and skill bonuses. Rangers gain this multiple times for free.

The only change being proposed is that Rangers gain the Creature Lore feat for free. This would give the class a little boost, fits thematically with Favored Enemy, and does not overlap with Favored Enemy at all.
