New player trying to join Empty New player trying to join

Post by CelineVonBeck Tue Jun 21, 2011 9:47 am

Hi there, I am complete novice in terms of playing on a NWN PW. I am very interested in playing of World of Aenea after listening to the NWN podcast. I've downloaded NWN Platinum from steam, then following the FAQ instructions downloaded and copied all the erf, hak files etc.
I've a few problems, and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
My first concern is that on the main NWN entry page it says version 1.023 (1765) (final), i realise that I am suppose to be running 1.69, but also realise that steam is suppose to automatically update the program to the latest version. I tried downloading and running NWNEnglish1.69OrigUpdate.exe but it cannot find NeverWinter Nights, I've tried running it from within the my documents/nwn folder as well, but just the same result.

The other strange thing is when I try to login to the multiplayer using my Bioware account i get:
Authorization Server Down, SKipping auth
Could not connect to master server, some multiplayer services may not be availabe.

Obviously I've tried googling for similar problems, but with no luck. Was kinda hoping its something simple I have done wrong at my end, any help would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

I've never used steam, so I'm not sure how it works exactly.

check your nwn install directory for a file called nwconfic.ini. Open it in notepad or such. It will list your came's current version at the top. If it says you're running with 1.69, should be all good. If not... someone with experience with steam will have to give more detail about how to update.

As for the multiplayer log in... that message you get, that happens often and can be ignored. It has no real effect on your gaming. Just click ok and go on into the server as normal.

The system won't let you login to Aenea if you're running an older version of the game. So...have you tried just logging in (ignoring the multiplayer message like Manny said)?

If you can get in, you're good to go. If you can't, then we can try to troubleshoot the problem. Like Manny, I don't have Steam experience, but it was my understanding that they always give you the most up-to-date version of the game, and NWN has been at 1.69 for a LONG time...

I'd suggest just trying to get into the PW, and then let us know if you can't...

..and WELCOME TO AENEA!! Smile

Thanks for the replys & welcome Smile
I agree that I should have the latest version, as on the steam site its says the release date is 27 Dec 2010. I tried a search for the config.ini file, its something I seen on google earlier, but none of the install folders has it, i have nwn2.ini, nwn2palyer.ini, guisettings.ini & nwncdkey.ini. checked them all but no mention of version Sad

I've tried to use the direct connect with 70.190.80.137:5121 and left the password blank, but just get a unable to connect time out message

I guess this is my first online quest! not what i had in mind Smile

thanks again for the feedback, and I'll keep trying. I did see that the bioware forums are down and that all likes to the NWN forum take you to the homepage rather than the proper link. So that may prevent steam from updating, not sure.

The old BioWare forums are closed to new posts (since last summer) and were taken offline a few days ago due to a hacking issue (they should return eventually).

New link: BioWare Social Forums (NWN section)

I was not even aware that Steam had Neverwinter Nights available. I had heard they have Neverwinter Nights 2 available, which it appears is the one you have. Aenea is a Neverwinter Nights (1) gameworld.

You can get Neverwinter Nights from Good Old Games (it's $9.99), then do the critical rebuild you mentioned earlier, then go here to fill out a form to get a key from them specifically for playing multiplayer (because the key they give you at first is good only for single-player).

Once you've got that done and have the Aenea files installed (.hak files and .tlk file), you should be able to log in and see everything.

Good luck!

Welcome! I find many of the tips and hints in the Forums helpful, as well as much contained in the Aenea Homepage. Here is a link to part of it:

Many thanks, the tips are a great help. I managed to get logged in today, so just finding my feet, to be honest I'd never even played NWN before today, so everything is new, but simple enough interface thankfully.

hope to bump into yous all at some point.

For learning the interface and basics, I recommend playing the Official Campaign Tutorial (lvls 1-3), then perhaps SoU or Shadowguard, followed by HotU; the latter being a lot of fun at higher lvls.

Welcome to the world, CVB! I won't see you in-game for some time, as my interwebs is down, but I want to give you a hearty welcome nonetheless!

And as you have experienced, the monkeys that hang out in these forums are about the most helpful creatures ever to set foot on a keyboard! You're in good hands!
