problem logging in w/windows 7
hi all,
i'm spending the holidays w/family, and i'd love to get some aenea time in, but i'm having some problems.
the configuration:
- windows 7 ultimate
- nwn diamond clean install
- hotu 1.69 critical rebuild patch applied, no issues
- required haks+tlks installed
- modifications made to nwn.exe, nwmain.exe re- compatibility, run as admin, security as per this thread
- modifications made to .ini files as per this post
i start up nwn and get to aenea via gamespy. i log in, choose my character, then the window just goes blank. [also happens in full-screen mode.] i wait for a while, then get an error msg saying the server has timed out and i've been disconnected.
if i get to aenea via a direct connect run in a batch file, pretty much the same thing happens, except that i get no error msg, i'm just booted and the windows disappears.
any help appreciated!
thanks
titus

Re: problem logging in w/windows 7
I had to alter my resolution settings before I could play; something about choosing settings that are less than Desktop if I recall correctly.

Re: problem logging in w/windows 7
hey elhanon,
thanks for the quick reply!
ok, i've tried a few different settings, both in windowed and non-windowed mode. unfortunately changing the resolution doesn't seem to help anything. i've even tried 800x600, which takes up a window only about 1/6 of the screen. are you pretty sure this is a graphics issue, even though the error msg i get is 'server response timed out' ?

Re: problem logging in w/windows 7
update: i tried logging in to a couple of other pw's, no problems.
...but i want to play on aenea... *waaah!*
also, sometimes, instead of the 'server response timed out' msg, i get a rather cryptic 'darkfist's tunic' -- that's it. :-?
i've checked the hak files and tlk tables, they are up to date.
any ideas?

Re: problem logging in w/windows 7
It looks like you might be running into the script that's in place to prevent others from logging into your characters using other accounts/cd keys (since the master authentication has been shut down since early summer).
If you're trying to play from another computer, it may be using different cd keys, which would prevent you from logging into your current Aenea account. If you are going to be away from your regular PC for a while, I should be able to manually wipe your recorded cd key from the database so you can log in again...but that will open your characters to being hijacked if someone else logs in with your username before you get a chance to. Let me know via PM if you'd like that wiped, and when you next expect to be able to play (after tomorrow...I've got lots of family stuff that will be keeping me offline all day).
...and wiping the keys from the database would have to be repeated once you return to your regular computer so you can log in again...
As for that "darkfist's tunic" line, that's supposed to be a custom talk table text box, but for some reason it only seems to work properly for me when testing. It's supposed to explain why you got auto-booted.

Re: problem logging in w/windows 7
For my problems, I also had to set new Resolution for my Desktop as well the game. But being Techless, I have no real idea what your problems are. Sorry.

thanks for the help, guys.
, that makes sense ; this nwn machine definitely uses different keys from mine.
i'll be going home in a couple of days, so might as well leave things as they are. thanks for the info, i'll be ready for this next time. >
