Windows 10

So, it took a little bif of effort, but I finally got the free Windows 10 upgrade working on both my laptop (formerly running Windows 8.1) and my Desktop (formerly running Windows 7).

From what I can tell, there is pretty much no functional difference in how Windows 10 handles NWN than either of the other two OSes.

I did have some fun with other programs like Sandboxie, Comodo Firewall, and Secunia Personal Software Inspector, but all those were pretty easy to fix with an uninstall/reinstall, with the exception of a tricky conflict between Comodo and Sanboxie (had to make exceptions on Comodo HIPS settings for all the sandboxie executables).

I am curious if anyone else has taken the plunge and what their experience may have been thus far?

I am rather impressed with Windows 10, myself.

No problem. There are some reports out there of issues, but very few if any 'show stoppers', mostly minor stuff that has already or will be patched soon. If you have Windows 7 or Windows 8, then Windows 10 should treat you well - and since the upgrade is free for 10 more months, I recommend locking it in if you can.

Microsoft did good on this one.

Sorry... when my PC boots up I load this old thing called Vista.... I think I really need to sort my computer out and get it working to a "modern day" standard....

Another thing to add to the list of stuff I don't have time for....

I'm so impressed with how has kept up with us/NWN with the "dragon spawn".. I'm really struggling for free time with just my three little terrors.... and it's getting worse the older they get .... ...

As for your PC - I would recommend reading the Vista tab of this page.

Then using the chart at the bottom of that page, verify the version of Windows 7 you need in order to do the upgrade. Unless you have Vista business you will almost assuredly need Windows 7 Home Premium, or you could splurge for Ultimate - its what I used and I liked it a lot).

Make sure you pay particular attention to 32-bit versus 64-bit. If your Vista is 32-bit, you can only upgrade to 32-bit (which I don't recommend, I would say back up your files and go for a 64-bit clean install at that point, so you can get the modern 64-bit upgrade of Windows 10 instead if being stuck with only 32-bit Windows 10)
