A Question to a Jeweller Empty A Question to a Jeweller

Post by titus Sat Jan 07, 2012 1:16 pm

the market square of macedone was busy as ever, and the bustling little gnome hurrying toward one of the stalls passed unnoticed through the crowd. arriving at her destination, she announced her presence with a delicate *ahem!*, causing the vendor -- a jeweller by trade -- to put down the amulet he was polishing and look around for a few moments, before he noticed her in front of his stand. he knitted his brows at the sight of her. she was badly bumped and bruised, and her fine clothing looked like it might have been pressed in a large, greasy pressing machine. 'yes'm! what can i do for you?'

'i have an amulet!' she replied, 'and i want to know if you can make it into something else. a ring.'

'well, let's have a look at it, then, shall we?'

she took an amulet out of her bag and handed it over to him. it was practically as big as the tiny young woman's head. the jeweller whistled in appreciation. 'my my, now that's a piece o' work, that is! where'dja get ahold o this, then?'

'oh... from a fiend gone berserk, actually,' she replied. 'and believe me, i risked life and limb to get it!' she added, her recent visit to the halls of zolaras only too fresh in her mind. 'so... can you do it?'

the man examined the jewel closely for several moments, muttering phrases like 'not easy, this',' 'special magic,' and 'cor blimey, lookathat' to himself. finally, he answered. 'well... nnnno.'

the little gnome was crestfallen. '...but i know someone who might!' the jeweller declared dramatically.

'really? well, would you be so kind as to ask this friend of yours if it could be done, and at what price?'

'i will indeed, young madame! come back tomorrow, i shall have an answer for you then!'

the next day, the little gnome appears, as arranged. 'any news?'

'uh... sorry, haven't been able to get ahold of him yet,' the jeweller replied, embarrassed.

'right. well, i'll come back later then.'

'yes, do that!'

A Question to a Jeweller Empty Re: A Question to a Jeweller

Uh.. I'm not a DM, but... As per this thread and the list of possible upgrades to an item, 100% Electrical Immunity isn't on there.. so a DM wouldn't be able to add the property to a ring in game.... ((read: re-forge the amulet into a ring))

However you could use a custom item voucher following the rules here to obtain a ring that is similar to that amulet (50% immunity)... Also note that the property alone costs 33,476gp so you'd need at least a 40k voucher (approx 32hrs played with one PC)... ...

Some items in-game are just more powerful then anything we can create ourselves.. and rightly so, or why would we have any treasures to find... and swapping items in/out is just part of the game play.... ... maybe you could instead think about merging this amulet with the one (I'm guessing) that you are reluctant to remove . .. ?

// I finally got the toolset open to look at that amulet, and was just about to post something similar to what RustyDios wrote. That one is one of the unique items in the game, since it only comes from within a certain golem.

// Things that grant 100% immunity to any particular type of damage are exceedingly rare.

* Note - it has been a little while since walkabout, but there is a small vilage near Tradeholm that carries some electrical gear at the shrine there. Also, Lightning was also in the village title, if I recall correctly.

FWIW - Personally, I prefer the amulet version*
