Red Walls in Astral Conjunction (computer-specific issue)
I recently bought this Sony laptop with Windows 7 64bit and got a fresh/clean dl of NWN Diamond Edition from Gamestop. Everything works well except when I log into Aenea and am sent to the Astral Conjunction. I load into the start area and see red boarder walls around the places to walk. I mentioned this to Dave just a minute ago and then went to dl the updated files since mine were older. That didn't help, I still saw the red walls so not sure what the problem is. Once in game, I have no troubles with visuals and do not see any red walls anywhere else =)

And it's only in the Astral Conjunction? What if you re-enter the Conjunction via one of those goofy mage spell-testing rooms?

Video driver, I am guessing. Check Sony website for updated driver.

What Dave said! And of course, maybe a redownload of the Aenea haks.

Re: Red Walls in Astral Conjunction (computer-specific issue)
Sounds like a video driver issue, likely involving a texture/rendering function. There are walls there (and they are, indeed, red in the toolset), but they are supposed to be invisible in-game.
Re: Red Walls in Astral Conjunction (computer-specific issue)
Are those walls similar to the extra download hak for builders of another tileset ?*... I can't remember the tileset I'm referring to exactly, I think it's one of the "generic dungeon/multilayer dungeon" tilesets... I do know we use it in Aenea in a few places.... ...
Have you somehow gotten a file mixed up in your haks?
.... But I'd follow daves advice first, likely a video driver/ rendering issue....
*the tileset has a hak that can be added to the module for toolset addition/building/tweaks, and shows red blocks/walls for height/depth of something.. then removed with no adverse effects before finalizing for player use..

Re: Red Walls in Astral Conjunction (computer-specific issue)
I've checked on the driver and supposedly it is up to date. Not sure about the file you mention Rusty. I have updated and exported the updated files for Aenea that were from September's update. Yes , I figured those walls might be actually there but supposed to be invis to the player. I do not see them on my desktop or older laptop but they both run Vista 32 bit. They have no issues at all and I'm using nwncx on them but not the new laptop.
I have a screenshot but can't get it to load on the forum...not very sazy with that, heheh

- How to upload screenies for dummies :
You need to change the format of your screenshot from a .tga to .jpeg. This is very easy to do. Get a program that can read .tga files (there are loads for free but I use Quicktime)... copy the image (an option is somewhere in the edit options). Open Paint (which most Windows OS have in the accessories). Paste image, crop (options in the edit and image menu's). Save with new name (as a .jpeg by default).... this method doesn't produce the best quality picture, but it will get you one that you can upload with ease and I use it loads with many of my screenshots.... no one has complained so far!
On the forum quick reply box, see the little icon with a picture and old floppy disk?... click on that, then click browse. Locate your .jpeg and select it. Click on the upload button. Wait a while. You will then be presented with a list of links. Right click and Copy the top one (for a small thumbnail view of your picture) or the middle one (for a big picture). Click the picture&disk icon to close the upload window.
Right click and paste the link into the forum reply box. Click preview to ensure your picture loads correctly. Click send/post.

Re: Red Walls in Astral Conjunction (computer-specific issue)
No problemo.... now we can all see exactly what you are experiencing without having to guess at it and anyone that stops by with the same/similar fault can easily go > ""That's my problem too!.. how did they fix this...""
If it were me I'd also change this threads title to read "Red walls in the Astral Conjunction (Starting Area)".... so the silly forum search function can locate it for any possible new players that may experience the same thing.... ...
Unfortunately I've never experienced this, don't know what could be causing it and very sadly have no idea how to help you prevent it..
Could it be something to do with the video options ?..
EDIT :: btw the walls are a very similar shade of red as the "toolset tileset help hak" that I was thinking of...
EDIT :: found the tileset I was thinking of; Versatile Dungeon
EDIT :: I also took a screenshot of the VD documentation that came to mind when reading your bug... see I'm NOT going mad....
Unfortunately it STILL doesn't help one bit in solving your issue... sorry... ....

Re: Red Walls in Astral Conjunction (computer-specific issue)
Wowie, wonder if this is a fault in one of your haks, some function about recognizing those Aenean walls as invisible.
You might try reinstalling the Aenean haks and updates.

Re: Red Walls in Astral Conjunction (computer-specific issue)
Moving to tech support section. Definitely a machine-specific issue.
There isn't a "builder version" issue here (like with the red spaces on the versatile dungeon hak). Those walls are supposed to be invisible, just blocking movement off the ice+crystal pathways. They are supposed to be visible in the toolset, but invisible during live gaming (and function as intended in most cases).

Re: Red Walls in Astral Conjunction (computer-specific issue)
If video driver is up to date, then I would try cranking video settings all the way up and see if anything changes... If this issue goes away but performance suffers, then slowly, incrementally turn things down until you locate the happy medium where the problem is gone, but performance is acceptable.
Also recommend installing nwncx.
Last thing to try is going into device manager, selecting video/display driver, right-click, select 'update driver' and in the wizard, choose the option to heck windows update. There might be a better version on there...

Re: Red Walls in Astral Conjunction (computer-specific issue)
Correction... Last thing would be a full NWN reinstall and all Aenean and cep content. Start from scratch and redownload everything.
Might also take a peek in the NWN.ini and see if the display options section has anything that jumps out at you, or google the issue and see if there are useful threads anywhere else on it... Maybe the bioware boards...

Re: Red Walls in Astral Conjunction (computer-specific issue)
Not specific to this issue, but some people have had success dealing with NWN issues by rolling back to older video drivers.
Re: Red Walls in Astral Conjunction (computer-specific issue)
Thanks to everyone. I will keep trying. The walls don't really bother me so long as they are not a sign of something worse and so far nothing else has been different.
