Partially Used: Lycanthropes
Ive been playing tarn my fencer for some time now...in pnp he was a shapeshifter...a lycanthrope, werebear to be precise. Now i know thats hard to implement in nwn as we only got wereboar, rat, cat and wolf. I played on another server where one could choose it as a racial at character creation. It gave them a widget that allowed them to shapeshift into whichever lycan they were. They werent inherently evil as it was based on thier alignment.
I figured it would be neat to have the option...id like to have tarn the way he was in pnp one day. Maybe it could be acquired either thru infection or maybe as a requested custom thing or even as a chest thing, where you just dragged the widget into your inventory. That would limit noobs from gettin it an hour after starting, maybe put it at the 6 hour or something mark.
Btw nice server..only been here a few days and im really diggin it.

Re: Partially Used: Lycanthropes
I'm probally not the best source of information for this, however... Lycanthrope (werewolf) is a player sub-race in Aenea found during character creation (far top-right crystal if memory serves correct).. you need to pick "Wolfblood" and you can find information on the pre-requists for the race , abilities granted etc ,on the Aenea website under "Rules and Info > Subraces".. .. then its a case of checking the phase of the moons using "info time" via the VC Chat system.. .. depending on the phase of the twin moons your PC will get some blood gained benifits (higher STR etc..) and be very wary if both moons are full ... hahaha.... ...

Re: Partially Used: Lycanthropes
In the dnd book on werebeasts..there were 3 different types of lycans..
1.Hereditary lycans:Those born what they are...tend to relish thier bestial natures and take time to learn the skill of skin-changing.
2.Maledictive lycans:Acquired thru a curse...normally unable to control the change and are bound by phases of the moon.
3.Pathological lycans:Acquired thru attack by another Pathological lycan. Can learn to control the change thru time but are still bound by thier bestial natures and phases of the moon.
What im lookin for is basically a were-class/race that allows you to shift and change at will, the current wolf blood i didnt take cause id maybe get to change once in..well...a blue moon .
The other server i played on had it..sadly it was in the PRC...and they ripped out the prc and made it a bland basic server and i lost it which saddened me...as i lost my tarn there
The act of Rp'ing out this i find challenging hence my starting of this thread

Re: Partially Used: Lycanthropes
I'm going to use this as a basis for a new Semi-Class, I think. That way, it can be acquired, and have the character be able to activate/deactivate the change.
Now, for a semi-class name....
How about "Wolf Channeler"?
Maybe "Wolfsoul"?
I'm trying to come up with something besides "werewolf", "lycan", or something similarly overused. And "wolfblood" is already a subrace.

Re: Partially Used: Lycanthropes
Depends on if your gonna do all 4 types of were-beasts though...wereboar,cat/tiger,rat and wolf.
The guide to werebeasts calls them just that...were-beast. That would cover all 4 without using the standard. Could go with the french term if your just goin wolf....Loup-garou.
One other thing, ive noticed(with the little script i sent you) with the standard bioware werewolf/beast. Is that it doesnt scale with character level. Your dmg output at say level 20 is the same as if it were level 1. Now i dont want players to have an ENORMOUS advantage...thats not my intention. Being a dm i dont want to overpower and unbalance the game. But if your level 15..and you shift to your animus form(hey thats a good name!), your gonna want to be at least some benefit or there would be no point to taking it in the first place.
Now when i worked on the white wolf server i played on long ago, we had it give when shifted an animal/monster weapons/claws from in the toolset based on level and equip it. I'm not sure its done...been ages since i looked at that script but it was nice how they implemented it. Maybe ya could do something similar.

Re: Partially Used: Lycanthropes
Well, the word 'were' comes from a primitive European word that means 'man'. And 'wor' or such would mean 'woman'. The use of adding on bear, boar, wolf, cat, or rat was because of mythological belief that some people held the blood of beasts within them, normally people were said to be such beasts if they were born with a full body of hair. Originally there was little belief in an actual 'curse' and as such lycanthropy wasn't originally what modern as well as medeival people thought. The more common mythological beliefs however started when Christians moved into Europe and added their culture onto the natives culture. I can't really explain why the old beliefs instantly changed, but it likely has to do with the religious 'righteousness' that was prevalent within the age of christianity. Vampirism however was a curse that was believed to exist and such rumors started between the years of 1550-1600. As such vampirism is a highly new curse and something quite modern with absolutely no believers or information on such things before that time.
