Not Used: A Player Corpse
Not sure if this is a suggestion or a question?...
The "placeable" item that is a PC's corpse... is this a plot/ non-destructable item?.. IF it is then that just seems wrong to me somehow ... ... all those flesh-eating zombies (& other beasties) around and here lying on the floor is a large piece of "fresh", pressumbally "red-blooded" meat... .. and they ignore it...
.. I think maybe the corpse should be destroyable and "hostile" to the enemies.. albeit have like DR50/-, 9999HP's etc.. (basically be destroyable but be damn difficult for most enemies) ... this would add a sense of pnp realism (your body if being gnawled by a pack of rabid wolves), whilst taking away any *real* threat... but also introducing a sense of urgency to a "Can someone come and ressi me" request....
... maybe even tell the PC ""Your body has xxxx HP's left and is being attacked by xxxxmonster""...
... also side-track adds a "raise him quick" whilst in a party, limits time on using a Gift of Z to be a quick(ish) choice.. or once the "corpse" is eaten leaves a "your only option to walk across the dias"...
.... further more can corpses be renamed to include the fallen PC?..
(SetName(oCorpse, (GetName(oPC)+ "Corpse"));.. or something similar...((( not sure if this is in place already but everytime I mouse over a corpse its just a "Corpse")))

Re: Not Used: A Player Corpse
One problem I see with the corpse being attackable is it would open it up to player griefing... if you can destory other's corpses.
Also, the corpse being there will not spawn enemies, only a player walking past the encouter trigger will do that, and it would be exploitative for a player to be able to use another's corpse as a meatshield, keeping the enemies from attacking them, thus reducing the threat level.
If you "examine" a corpse on the ground, or click on it, I don't remember which, you can tell whose corpse it was. So that is already in place.

Also there are certain ways to die, other than lava, that leave no corpse behind for ressurection.

Re: Not Used: A Player Corpse
I don't think griefers would be too much of an issue (everyone on Aenea seem to be anti-greifer)....
BUT...
I do see the problem of it causing it the chaos of a fight with AoEs from party members. Not that the average fireball is going to blast the corpse into a fine red mist... but it would be hassle to work around. Especialy if your resident meatshield with the nice high damge resistances suddenly turned into a corpse with none of the PC's actual buffs.

Re: Not Used: A Player Corpse
From Wikipedia: "A griefer is a player who plays a game simply to aggravate and harass other players."
Personally, I would change that to "A griefer is a player who intentionally aggravates and harasses other players." (among other things, with some caveats). Game designers actually have to design with "greifers" in mind so that some players cannot abuse the game/other players.

An example of some "greifing" in the Age of Conan
I admit it, I laughed at the Benny Hill music...

Ok... thanks for the quick response... I'm glad we don't have any PC's running around Aenea making life hell for others "because they want to".... .... and that video is rather funny but I could see where it would annoy the hell out of those guys being kicked..

Re: Not Used: A Player Corpse
Griefing is usually between two specific people. The AoC vid. is just being a dick, Its hilarious, but still a dick move.
As for corpse bashing...i'd have to ask "whats this adding to the server?" I guess it would add realism, but would that realism be either necessary or needed? Would it add anything significant to the server?
I've played on roleplay servers before with corpse destruction and it really did play hell with things. Example?
*druid summons elder water elemental*
*everyone buffs up* ready? Right, lets go!
*everyone attacks the spawn*
*Druid is casting Call lightning*
*Elder water elemental uses Drown*
*msterswrdsmn fails his fort save and dies*
*Druid casts call lightning*
*Your corpse has been Destroyed*
That took maybe all 6 seconds between charging the spawn to being killbashed. Even at lower levels, a lot of the npcs throw around AoE spells, which probably would lead to a bashed corpse pretty quickly.
And...bashable corpses really do lead to griefing. Don't like someone? Kill them or wait until a spawn kills them then bash that body! Every time a server had bashable corpses, that kinda happend...alot.

Re: Not Used: A Player Corpse
This is the only server I've ever played on, but I'm willing to take msterswrdsmn's word on this issue - it seems kinda funky, and that it could quickly degenerate from its original purpose of immersion to one of abuse and, ultimately, grief. So, my 2 cents, for what it's worth, is a flat-out "no, let's not do that."msterswrdsmn wrote:And...bashable corpses really do lead to griefing. Don't like someone? Seriously, though, RustyDios is right - let's be glad that we don't have any griefers, and work damned hard to ensure that we don't get any - communications being a vital piece of that machinery. Aenea is a great server, I love playing here! I don't ever want the day to come when I am loathe-ful to log-on because some jackass on a horse, or without a horse, or whatever, is making "life" miserable for me. Just don't want to see it. Ever. As long as we respect each other ("And it harm no-one, do as ye will"), we should be okey-dokey! Right as rain! (And no, I did NOT steal those from Sarah.)

Re: Not Used: A Player Corpse
I agree with the not making corpses "destroyable". No need to have the possibility of adding insult to injury...err...insult to death.
As it is now, I think the corpses are just realistic enough.
It looks like a generic body (so no need to copy all of a PC's gear just to look like them). You can find out who it was by clicking on the corpse. If the dead PC has a scroll of raise dead or resurrection, the PC checking the corpse get's that scroll (hopefully for use on the dead PC!). When brought back to life (via scroll, item, spell, or walking across the dais), the corpse vanishes.
