Suck is finding out the total sum of one's tax return has been taken to pay off a student loan for a school one did not attend.

Another reason why I don't like New Jersey (sorry anyone from New Jersey, but frankly I think NJ is the cesspit of the US)

Apologies to NJ'ers as well.... but i am inclined to agree with Manny on this one... one of the worst debacles I ever had from a legal standpoint happened to me involving a lying state trooper from NJ and the racket that the courts and lawyers have set up for traffic ticket defense for out of state residents....

in a word... godawful.

Oh, I know! No need to sell on that point. I just kept getting booted off of the library's network...I think that they have something in place to hamper WOW players and it applies to NWN as well.

the blood sucking bastards who took my tax returns for that student loan just sent me an updated bill, and tacked on 20% for the sum of the principle, the outstanding interest, and incidental charges associated with the billing process.

yeah, they're charging me for the remainder of the loan, charging interest on the interest, and charging me for the paper work in processing the payments I make.

Bastards.

I can see this will soon have to be taken to court, cuz the BSB's are keen on sending me the "pay us now" papers, but not any of the other information about the loan I requested to fight them off.

What really gets me is the interest on top of the interest. I just read over the paper again.... there's the principle of the loan, the interest as charged by the bank that financed the loan, the "incidental fees", and the people sending me this apparently aren't the bank, they're the "higher education student assistance authority", and THEY'RE charging the extra 20% on the SUM of the initial principle, interest and "incidental" charges... because they 'bought' the loan from the bank.

In new developments of "suck", lightning... it has an innate sense of what you value most, and knows that DSL is unable to be filtered through standard surge protectors... grrr!! On the lighter side, everything looks funny since my monitor got half-zapped, and we had a funny moment out of it- I thought my sudden death of the internet and monitor issues were related to the updates vista had pestered me for yesterday... didn't even dawn on me that the really fantastical light show might have caused it, oh no, surely vista had struck again lol

At least I dont work for your ISP.... I had folks calling in to my ISP tech support job about similar issues... but they were *really* dumb... the following is paraphrasing... but pretty close to the mark...

"How can I assist you today?"

"My internet is not working."

"Ok. What message comes up when you try to go online?"

"Nothing. My whole screen went off."

"So the computer was on and working fine before, but now the screen is totally dark and blank?"

"Yeah, your stupid service took my whole screen off!"

"Is the power light lit on your computer?"

"Lemme check.... no, its off, too... what the hell did you people do?!"

"Can you check if there are any lights on your cable modem for me?"

"What does that matter if my computer screen is off?"

"Im just trying to help find out what is going on so we can get it resolved for you..."

"Fine, I'll go look... no... there are no lights on my freaking modem either! Somebody from your company better pay for this!"

"One last question: are the lights on in the room right now?"

"No!! Everything is off, dammit! Now I want you to fix it!"

"Well, I would love to do that. It seems like you've lost power.... do any of the lights in other rooms work or is the whole house out?"

"My whole house it out, stupid! Why else would everything be off? Somebody at your stupid company knocked everything out!"

Yes funny, unless your the guy on the recieving end of that phone call... sometimes people can be so stupid...

I always try to be polite to phone callcentre people.. I can't imagine it being the nicest job in the world, everyday it is guaranteed that you will be an abuse punchbag for someone... 80% of your day is staring at the same computer screen, with different info on it... you get to repeat yourself and the same solutions to the same problems over and over (just wishing for once someone starts off with "I checked the FAQ in the guidebook" - and meant it ,, before next stating the very first question included)...

Thats just some of the downsides I can think of now... the upside however: at the end of everyday you can sit back, look at your call list rate, and think of those 150 calls today I managed to help 120 people get on with their lives and be that little bit happier that something that was broken is now fixed... .... the satisfaction of helping others is the best reward of everything you suffered....

People get unbelievably retarded when they call 411 too. Several of my friends work there (at&t is one of the biggest employers in this bitty town) and they come home crying, heading straight for the bottle or ready to punch someone every single day. I learned new ways to cuss someone out from the calls they have taken. (and I was enlisted at one point, so I had a pretty good grasp of cussology)

What doesnt suck quite as bad is remembering to do a full partition backup beforehand.... so you can restore Smile

If you can get your hands on them, I highly recommend MiniPE and also Acronsis Disk Manager Suite.

Suck... Suck is working for two weeks on an essay I embarassed myself to get references for, emailing several people, of whom are webcomic creators and begged for interviews to help me with this essay, having two amazing and wonderful people take pity on me to give me the interview, piecing it together to make a painstakingly gramatically-correct, twenty+ page essay, editing it several times, and working through every single subject to get every single piece of work I had complete(ALL OF IT) to get out of school a week early, getting all of my teachers, the principal, the secretary, and the guidance counselor, to sign a piece of paper to say I could go..

...And then having my teacher of two classes call back a week after I get my final report card, saying I'm 'incomplete' because she cannot find the essay, and thus, must take away a class and mark me as incomplete for both classes, making it very possible that I will not graduate next year, and lowering my credit for both classes, lowering my GPA by quite an amount.

Suck is also trying to contact this same teacher again and again to tell her exactly where I left that essay in the School's global share, only to find that she has taken vacation.

Luckily, I was able to talk(Also see: Get my parents to talk, because, hurdur, cannot talk to teenager alone during summer) to the principal, who saw the piece of paper, and changed my grade, and will be talking to said teacher. I know I shouldn't stress so much about it, but I just felt it was a bit of a story I still needed to vent about.
