Yeah, especially as several of these folks payed visits to me when I was in the hospital last year, called, or came by to visit since. These are the kinds of folks that never have an unkind word, are always chipper, and make the world a better place when they are here. One lady in perticular always was smiling and asking, "How are you doing today?", and meant it; the entire time she was dying of cancer. She even forgave the doctors for the errors that led to her missing a final surgery. She was something special.

The world sure needs more folks like them.

Have been playing Skyrim, getting prepped for the new DLC, and have been encountering some irksome quirks (eg; CTD upon Quicksave at one area, HUD becomes stuck occasionally, etc); nothing major, but noticeable.

So I spent 3-4 hrs uninstalling all the mods and plug-ins from Skyrim, uninstalling and reinstalling the game itself, re-attaching the desired mods, and find myself with the old saves; old quirks. How?!

I loathe Tech, and am in a dark, dark place currently....

Friends, I have not been very active, because of massive house rearrangement, I have a couch directly in front of my computer. Makes posting a pain, and playing near impossible. When we move it, I will likely return!

Yep; even worse is when it seems to be done purposely.

Soon after my stroke, we applied for utility asst. They sent the paperwork to me, and it was filled completely. Then the agency cancelled the next two appointments, and on the third they informed us that are paperwork was incomplete, and gave us more forms. We did not return; was not worth my time. Sadly, they were treating others this way, too. An elderly woman followed us out the door on that day, and asked if they treated all the new applicants like this.

On a brighter note, another agency cut through all the red tape, and helped us within two weeks for other another area of need, so not all are so bad.

Snow.

Now realize, the town I live in, the people got their drivers licenses from a gumball machine somewhere in town. On the best of days, they cannot drive. On slushy wet streets? Ugh.

Here in the South, they tend to close it all down locally for about an inch of powder, for good reason. This; the folks do not have expeience driving on snow and ice, and the lack of proper machinery to clear roads properly. Driving on ice has been my greatest fear for some time, so I do not miss this encounter at all with my giving up the wheel.

Send that snow my way.

The Phoenix area people would either be so freaked out they wouldn't drive or they'd end up wrecking just beyond their driveways so I wouldn't have to worry about them. Hey, I figure if they can't drive in the rain they can't handle snow.

heh! I remember watching an epidode of King of the Hill that illustrated all the cars and trucks going out of control when the first snowflake hit the asphalt! So much truth....

Coming home from a busy hectic weekend to find that due to technical difficulties, there's no internet. Am typing this from our lovely local library! But will hopefully be back online by sometime next week. Oh, yeah, just had my right hand fixed for carpal tunnel, too, so the dressings are making the mouse a bit squirrley! Fun fun fun!

Am not a fan of the evolving changes in games....

When I purchase a game, it would be great to play the game when and where I desire; not wait while it must be downloaded for hours (what were these disks for again?) or only available on-line.

I cannot recall the number of times games used to make time pass when the internet was down, or before it became available. Now it seems the current trend is that the Player does not even own the games; simply pay to play them when the lines are good. Phht!

*sigh* Twelve hours down, and eight more to go before play....

Suck is...

Child 1 getting sick to his stomach yesterday morning and puking all over my treadmill (he was standing on it to play on the computer to pass the time). Took an hour to clean, and the thing still smells (had to wheel it outside on the back deck until I can go over it again with more water and various cleaners).

Child 2 getting sick at about 2 am...and puking every 15-60 minutes until just an hour or two ago. I was up until 5am with him before I fell asleep (he didn't sleep). Woke up several times to the sound of him spewing. At least he's a self-sufficient puker...gets himself to the bathroom, cleans up after himself.

Child 4...I let him and his sister out of their room at 9 am. Yes, I lock the twins in their room at night so I can sleep without them destroying the house or finding a way to get hurt. Child 4 had puked on his bed and the floor by the door. Then again an hour or so after I let them out.

Me, I'm still fine, but I'll be switching to a diet of toast and water all day, just in case. Last time all the kids got pukey sick, so did I a couple days later.

I hate puke. The sight, the sound, and especially the smell. One of the reasons I've never been intoxicated in my life or hang out with people so drunk they can't hold it in.

And...today I'm the one that's ill. Haven't hurled yet (thanks to having some zofran left in the house), but it's been close all day. Just now getting mobile around the house.

So, what's the zofran? Isn't he the master of the universe, or somesuch thing like that?

Zofran is anti-nausea medicine. Really don't want to puke? Zofran is probably your best bet.

Still a bit off today, but nowhere near as nauseous and damned achy as yesterday.

Will return to internet and possibly even NWN tomorrow.

Suck is ... hanging around on the forums, hoping that a certain  sees that the server is down, and will rescue it in time before I gotta go to bed!

Sorry Eric. This kind of stuff plagues me, too. You may wish to dble-check the electrical access devices to insure they are working properly (ie; UPS, surge protectors, etc). They may have stopped a spike that deactivated everything as designed, but are now in off mode. Best of luck!

Man, "Suck is" having to post on this thread again.  Loss of my own computer ("It's dead, Jim."), followed by loss of the internet (with the exception of abe's craptastic laptop [it's still running Vista, for crying out loud] and the wireless internet of an anonymous and unknowingly kind neighbor) and ultimately the loss of our apartment (as we move to consolidate households with my elderly mother-in-law) - all of this makes for a summer of legendary Sucktastic proportions.

I will be on here and there, but it will be a bit before my presence is regular.  In the meantime, keep the faith, be cool, and question everything.

Sidenote: My PC still runs Vista too, and works just fine(aside from an aging graphic card which doesn't do well for the newest games/programs). I haven't ever experienced any of the problems so many seem to report about it. :V

having a respiratory infection of some sort.  Day 2, and it's progressing.  Stayed in bed for about 10 1/2 hours, thanks to my favorite babysitter in the world (the television), and I feel worse now than when I went to bed.

And on top of it, my two older boys have been pestering me for days with "Can we play D&D today?".  I've been putting them off, because...

Reworking The Temple of Elemental Evil for 3rd edition is a pain in the posterior.  So many encounters, so many creatures, so many rooms... Finished with the first level of the dungeon last night, which should be good for a couple weeks of play time, but dang...only three more dungeon levels to go.

Never getting snow.

Stuck living near Phoenix, Arizona means never getting to experience winter.  It's so damn boring here...1/2 the year it's too hot to spend time outside, the other 1/2 the year it's just not interesting enough to want to spend time outside.

I envy those that live in places with actual seasons and houses covered in something besides stucco.

One of the best Christmas vacations I have had in life was in AZ. We picnicked in the sunny lands near Phoenix. Then when my siblings wanted to see snow, we traveled about an hour or so North to the canyons and had snowball fights until we chilled, then returned to Tempe to thaw. Fantastic!

It sure beats being buried in powder as in Michigan or confined to the slush and dreary streets of Illinois by a long shot.

One of the guys that used to work for Bioware; Edmonton poked a bit of fun at friends living in Atlanta saying that while they had sub-freezing temperatures, it was a mild 41 in Canada.

Or perhaps it is when no woman is calling, asking for help, visiting, etc. Have experienced both, and dislike them both; neither is acceptable as a final answer.

OK; am hating today, esp as it is Halloween.

Since the stroke and various meds I have been taking, my partial nerve damage has left me with a tingling sensation that appears and vanishes periodically. This feels much like bugs are moving across the skin, and touching the location removes the sensation for a time. Yes; the crazy old man seems to brush at imaginary bugs. And previous meds caused Night Terrors which created dreams of various vermin scurrying about my skin, which lasted for the first 6 months; a heartwarming memory. New meds removed the problem; Huzzah!

Then for the past month, I have been fighting 'something'; a lump that appeared over the course of a couple hours, and am still trying to discover the exact problem. The doctors ran tests, and I am trying a couple of different antibiotics to see if it is an infection. If not, will be getting a biopsy done to get more exact info. The doctor mentioned in the last visit that certain infections can cause such a growth, including the famous Cat Scratch Fever, and insect bites. Nothing was noticed, but the info was given.

Today, I went down for a nap, and went through the usual routine of brushing away bugs, but this time the sensation did not go away. I got up, and my bed was covered in small ants, also swarming over me! One quick shower later, and a room full of insect spray, I still have yet to find myself sleepy enough to rest.

Ick.  I have a similar thing, an old leftover from an allergic reaction to an antibiotic. I feel your pain, Elhanan. All except for the actual ants - never had that happen, and never hope to have it happen! Let's see if I can get to sleep tonight, yes?

Have had better holiday seasons.

Had to have surgery recently on swollen lymph nodes in my neck; a problem that formed right before Halloween. Even grew a beard to insure I would not accidently cut the area myself, but my youthful follicle coloration of red has changed more into shades of white and grey. The resulting appearance I have dubbed 'Sandy Clause'. I was asking the young ladies at the hospital whether I should keep it or not, and while most had no opinion, the edge was going towards keeping it. Well, until an honest nurse came in to check on my Mom and 'her husband that just had surgery'. It comes off soon.....


And the biopsy got a clean bill of health a few days later. So it was rather difficult for all involved when I returned to the doctor yesterday to be informed of a correction from the lab, and it appears I likely have Hodgkin's Lymphoma which will require chemo soon. I am not a happy camper; not so much anxious, but this has my family upset right before Christmas. And the doctor felt bad enough to not charge us for the check-up.


So this coming year will be seeing new challenges. And the game may be seeing a few really ticked off Dwarves venting their wrath on opponents.

Thanks guys. I have some old friends going thru sim events, and will be getting some advice and recommendations from them to possibly aid the coming battle.
