Here in the UK, when it comes to using your phone whilst driving, we're hardcore.

Whoa. That is hardcore.... and on the money, too.

It makes me angry when I see people using their phones while driving.... cuz they are taking risks not only with their property and lives... but mine and everyone else on the road.

I can see to a degree using speakerphone or a handsfree unit to talk while in motion (though dialing the number while in motion is bad, doing it while at a stop is more or less ok)... but texting?

Thats just negligent and irresponsible.

Try driving down the motorway and seeing the car your overtaking being drove by a guy sat behind a laptop.... ... me and the wifey followed behind with OUR hazards on to warn everyone else... wifey made the call to the police as I was driving, next junction they swamped him (still on his laptop)...... and he didn't even notice until he nearly hit the police car in front! ..... .. ....

Might not have you beat, but it's on par; inthecorridors was almost whacked a couple of weeks ago by a cop who was texting while rolling down the center of one of the city's main streets. And I mean in the uniform, cruiser, and everything; attention totally on his thumbs.

And I bet he wonders why people hate him when he writes them tickets too!

checking Angie's info kk numbers, and discovering all her numbers were reset to 0 recently as her dragon kills went from 3K+ down to just 51

Setting up a old dinosaur of a pc for my girlfriend's mom and lil brother only to find the bios are corrupt and need to be fixed, then not having a floppy drive to load the fix to, grrrrrr.

If you have the users manual, or you know (or can read off the mainboard itself) the make and model of the mainboard.... you can go to the manufacturer's website and look for the "Restore to factory defaults" jumper. Just move or remove the jumper as instructed, and reboot the machine and all settings should be corrected.

EDIT: you will want to navigate the site to find the board model and then hopefully they will have screenshots of the board itself with various important parts highlighted/labelled... thats where you want to find the afore mentioned jumper.

Sometimes all you have to do on older boards is just remove the little CMOS battery and all the BIOS stuff will be erased. It should then reload the factory settings on reboot.

If the BIOS itself is stored in EEPROMS, and those eeproms have been somehow borked.... I hate to say it, but yer gonna need more than a floppy drive to fix it... usually you end up getting a new board in those situations.

addendum: after you move or remove the jumper in question, and reboot the machine to rest the BIOS settings.... be sure to power it down and put the jumper back where it was originally so that the corrected settings will persist.... otherwise the damn thing will reset itself with each reboot, and no changes you make after that will be saved on the next reboot

I'll take a look around, it's an old as dirt optiplex, hope it'll be a simple fix, just bought a router so they could get online without using my machine (and I got me a lil netbook, so I had ulterior motive, hehe)

Yeah old dell optiplex should have a reset jumper.... or you can pop out the CMOS battery for a minute and put it back in and see if that clears the settings....

When I had a laptop, I used to use an external keyboard, because I can't stand gaming on laptop keyboards. Gives me the shivers just thinking about it!

Suck is... having a big pile of paperwork to still go through, and deciding hellsyeah, light it up with a match... and you have no matches to set the paperwork on fire with

suck is.... go out for a bite to eat at a restaurant with your buddy, deciding to play a lame prank on your buddy when he steps out for a smoke at the restaurant and leaves his keys unattended, so you hide them in an easy spot hoping to have a little fun making him look for them... he gets back from the smoke and due to a sloppy job of hiding them, sees part of them poking out from hiding spot... so he decides to turn the tables.... and waits till you arent looking... then grabs them from the hiding spot without you noticing... and later when its time to leave, he pretends to not know where his keys are and gets mad and refuses to look for them, demanding that you tell him where they are... and then when you try to show him how easy they were to find.... they arent there... as he triumphantly holds them up to show he had them the whole time... laughing at you...

I dunno... I think that's pretty awesome.

Suck is...a 3 year old puking up anything and everything every 15-60 minutes for the last 13 hours. At least it seems to have slowed down and progressed to dry heaving.

Kids'll change ya. Before I had them, just the sound or smell of someone else vomiting would have me almost doing the same (and I hate puking...I once managed a 12-year stretch without doing it ). Now, I can hold onto one of my kids as he does it multiple times within an hour. I wonder what adding two more offspring will lead to.

A match? one good thing about being a plumber.... i have a nice torch for that! and here you thought i was bad with the explosive blade lol

I got torches too, but those are down at the garage. Woulda been a shorter trip to go to the store and get more matches than to go out to the garage for the blowtorches

Suck is coming home to find your much-anticipated new glasses have arrived in the post, so you excitedly rip open the package and put them on only to find:

A) One pair is all knackered and bent, and the lenses don't fit in the frames properly, so you can't wear them, and

B) The other pair, which you admittedly bought on a bit of a whim without first trying them on, look absolutely hideous on you.

That sucks

... Should've gone to Specsavers .....


The fact that you got two pairs likely mean you did though.... If the glasses were bent and misshapen due to postage/packaging/handling errors you should be able to do some free-stuff-via-complaining.... .. Get new glasses sent to yourself for free, with an extra pair as well, as free reaction lenses, or sunglasses, or (the one everyone forgets and their damn expensive)... free swimming goggles ! ..... kick up a big fuss that you can't continue with your life because you can't see a damn thing, because "the company" has damaged your glasses before you even got them..... and then tell them you want your new ones as "next day delivery"... .... ... This has happened to myself as well, and I blagged all the above for free ... ...

... later I took the bent and misshapen ones back to the store and got them exchanged under the warranty policy too... I have 4 pairs of "identical" glasses and a pair of goggles all for the cost of £145 .... ....



... This can suck real bad, but at least it can have a silver lining !

Heh, actually I was trying to *avoid* going to Spec Savers this time, and had a go at buying my glasses online (way cheaper than Spec Savers, plus I got a free pair too). I was feeling all smug and internet-savvy until the glasses arrived. :p

I might do just that. It's three days now, and I found a cigarette that had fallen between the wall and desk - it almost didn't make it to the garbage disposal.

Start writing out a PC concept? Smoke.
Find out it has already done it? Smoke.
Level a PC? Smoke.
Switch PCs? Smoke.
Finish an area of Aenea? Smoke.
Get beaten in the arena again? Smoke.

This is temporary though. I might be able to beat this, but I'm not sure there is a cure for Aenea, or even if it is desired :-)

Good luck, Svair! As an ex-smoker who used to actually get up in the middle of the night to smoke, because I apparently couldn't even make it until morning, I know how you're feeling.

Suck is an expensive ass private art school that has been slacking for the past four weeks on fixing the air conditioning in the fashion building computer lab. Now the only lab in the city with the programs we need is never below 88 degrees F; currently 94. Dude, these computers are going to start overheating soon.

Suck is having twins that are both ill at only a month old, with one of them having to spend 48 hours in the hospital for a bunch of tests to rule out anything but a simple cold virus.

Yeah, that's why I've been missing the last couple of days.

Hope they get to feeling better soon
