Partially Used: Lysis Bracers
These bracers function is great when they are equipped. They present a bit of a problem for monks, however.
Monks have significant troubles with penetrating higher levels of Damage reduction (because Ki Strike only goes to +3 pre-epic and needs feats to increase post epic), and cannot add elemental crystals to their unarmed attacks.... *unless* they wear a pair of *gloves* while fighting... and this means they cannot benefit from the bracers.
I would suggest a "gloves" version of the Lysis Bracers so monks could enchant them with crystals and the mystic forge and dwarf upgrades.... however, the item uses charges and cannot be recharged... meaning the poor monk in question would exhaust his crystals and BoM and end up losing the item anyhow.
Perhaps there could be a lysis item for monks that uses a different slot? I would actually recommend an Ioun Stone, usable only by monks. It would take up an ioun stone slot, but at least it wouldn't further cost the monk a regular gear slot as they already cannot equip weapons (except kama) and shields and retain their unarmed bonuses, and their glove slot would be reserved for their "weapon" gloves. The ioun solution would be the most equitable, methinks.
If the ioun stone option were viable, there could be a vc command added to switch an existing pair of bracers into the monk-ioun version... so there would not be any need to seed the extra item into loot drops and shops, and the monk could only get the ioun if they find a pair of bracers first.

Hmm, there is an item for sale at macedone that can recharge items. Go to the jeweler (not gem) seller. Its under his misc section.
In order for it to recharge and item you should first know it uses charges from other items to do so.

daveyeisley's idea sounds good. I don't play monks, but it seems like a solid solution to that dilemma...

The scepter of magical reinvestment doesn't work on lysis bracers though. That got changed a few months ago.

what?!?! dang, I hope it wasn't changed with more stuff.
I usually recharge my healer's kits and stuff like that, sometimes above their maximum charges all the way to 50!

Re: Partially Used: Lysis Bracers
I used to as well, but the cost to recharge kits was getting to be more than the cost to just buy new ones. The lysis bracers not being able to be recharged really stinks though.
I haven't run across any other items that can't be recharged though, just the bracers

I wholeheartedly agree that it stinks.... but I can live with it as long as they are consistently available for purchase. If they become any more rare than they are... then I think it would suck.
Monks cant really make use of them in any significant battles at the moment (which is their optimal purpose in the first place), hence the workaround suggestion.

Re: Partially Used: Lysis Bracers
Maybe, just in general.... That the "Secret keys of lysis" are bracers always puzzled me. Perhaps if they were instead an actual key item, but to have them fire off you have to activate the key, sort of like how a caster has to activate a contingency?

Re: Partially Used: Lysis Bracers
I'm adding a cloak version called Lysis' Smile. Still uses up a slot for what is essentially "life insurance".
The reason they're not rechargeable is I didn't want people to be wearing these all the time (it's supposed to be a rare "escape from death") and have an easy way of replenishing them. Having to find another pair makes them more valuable than simply draining magic from otherwise "junk" items to put into something useful.
The favor of Lysis for followers will now randomly give either the bracer or the cloak version. The cloak version will be rare, but available.
