portals?

ok so i finally got my arse in gear and did the wanderer's quest so i could put 'the key' w/the clues my character had already read off of various portals. so i activated a couple of them, and they don't seem to lead anywhere except... limbo. O_O

'you traveled without a destination'... hmm... but there's no way to -set- a destination. clicking on the control device once a portal is activated just makes it hum '[portal device]' in that smug sort of way portal devices have.

how do these things work?

Each portal has a code; much like Stargate. Once the code is entered, the first portal may be used to arrive at the destination dialed. If the code is in error, one gets Limbo instead.

Peronslly, I recommend getting access to Teleport spells/ scrolls; less pain involved.

i know, right? she's already got like 20 of her tp slots filled, and uses them frequently. but there's a lower 'ooh'-factor w/tp...

Near everyone of the portals spread across Aenea, there is words etched into the ground/on the wall, or another object nearby which you should read (aka, click with your mouse) it will give you "the code".

well, i did. that's how i managed to activate them.
setting a destination appears to be another thing altogether, though. :?

Most of my errors were simple mis-dials on my part; used the wrong notes, or attempted to decypher the clues on the spot rather than solving them first.

But Teleportation magics are my drug of choice for all my characters; do not know if I could survive an entire build w/o them.

At an inactive portal, you should be able to use the ancient portal control. It should call up a conversation, which contains a list of gemstones you touch in a specific order. If the order exactly matches the 7-stone "code" for a different portal (not the one you're standing near), the portal should activate for about 60 seconds.

If the "code" entered matches the portal you are at, nothing should happen.

If it matches an existing portal in another area, the portal should activate and send anyone that steps into it to the destination portal.

If any other code is used, stepping into the portal should send you to Limbo. Blind code entry is not advised.

If for some odd reason you come into an area and the portal there is showing the "active" visual but nothing happens when you step into it, using the control and exiting out without entering a code should reset it properly.

The destination should be set once the 7th gemstone is touched.

Note, for those reading that haven't been able to use these yet...make sure you have equipped the "key" before trying to use the portal control.

Also note, there is a Wanderer's Portal in the Dark Realm, but there isn't a code for it. Something else may be required to get to that one from a normal portal.

BTW, A couple of the writings near portals that give the clues to their activation sequence are somewhat riddles, so their might be interpretation error.

Personally, I don't use the portals because I am terrible at riddles. With Elhanan, tp scrolls all the way!

heh! Not terrible at puzzles; simply too little patience with them. This is what Walkthroughs are for, except when the sites are down for silly protests.... *grumbles something about cutting off noses to spite faces*
