Is anyone interested in a setting up a regular D&D night/
Just a thought I have had, would anyone be interested in a regular weekly D&D adventure, perhaps some players and a DM to do a regular weekly DMed adventure, with characters who only play on that night so that all level somewhat together, and have a storyline which takes multiple sessions to complete, with perhaps a recurring antagonist, like an old fashioned PnP game from the 70s..........just a thought, if anyone would be interested as a DM or a player, post here. This would assume wouldn't mind us doing something like this in Aenea.

I wouldn't mind at all.
Once my crazy summer settles down, I might even find a regular time to help out.

I'd love to.... the only problem is that my playtime has become.. er.. somewhat erratic.... it's pretty much down to "whenever the wife isn't hassling me to actually DO something and the little-un is asleep"... anyone here with a wife and children will fully understand my plight that out of the 24hr Day that leaves me with approximately minus 12 hours to myself

Well, it looks like we have player interest, if any DM would be interested, post a day/time you could be available, and we will see if anyone can make those times.
Or, we can put it on the shelf until summer is over and everyone's schedule becomes more predictable.

Lv 2 or Lv 3 is the base starting level in Aenea dependent on your choice of subrace (or not).... so "getting" to level 3 is akin to saying "I have a character ready and waiting" ... ...

Based on past campaign experience, it was quite helpful to have each PC make an investment into Heal as a skill, or at least fill some self-healing slot. While toting a healer around is a time honored practice, it is not always fun to play depending upon the Player.
Same kinda goes for Lore, but to a much lesser degree.

Sweet! I am thinking about a Paladin, I never play a Paladin, perhaps a gnomish Pally. I could go with Mage or Sorceror instead, if the party looks fighter heavy. Or I love to play fighter rogue, but I already have Velvet, so as long as we HAVE a rogue heheh, otherwise I could do Ftr/rogue instead of Pally.
Everyone post what you want to play and lets see how the party will stack up!

I am interested, but I dont have time currently. As to when that may change, I can't say, unfortunately. The hard thing for me is wanting to play a PC in such a group, but recognizing the need for a DM as well, so wanting to help on that end
With no playtime, though, its kinda moot.

I was going to say this myself........
Lets just say a "regular" playtime to meet up is very difficult to attain... but most of us go completely out of our way to arrange game-time for those special DM announced events... to the extent of a)booking time off work, b) getting the in-laws to childmind, c) giving the wife the car keys and the credit card (shopping spree! gives at least 2hrs!!, damn expensive), d) putting the dog in a boarding kennel ... etc ... I could go on, but, those are the times when "the players" really manage to get together and storm Aenea ... ... and often they are planned weeks in advance....
Not to say the DM team never do an impromptu event when enough people do converge on any given day (or even just one person up for a DM challenge!)....... ....

From the opposite of the world my comment would be
Any time set is usually not compatible for me, unless as Rusty states, I can arrange a sickie, cough, cough
Hopefully it works, as I would love to attend some of the DM events

Re: Is anyone interested in a setting up a regular D&D night/
I'd love to have a scheduled game event that I can plan for, but for me it will only be possible in my work's off-season, December through April.
And I'd actually prefer that such an event not always be for just for entry-level characters, as personally it's not so much fun for me to make a new character just for the sake of making a new character (that likely won't have much personality since I will have to make up on the spot some RP life purpose unrelated to my already-established emotionally-invested story), then proceed to rehash the very-well-known lands in a tediously weak ineffective state and die a lot.
I'd prefer to take one of my middle- to higher-level characters to some place that she's never been able to go to because she hasn't had a group, and happily RP along the way with her story. I don't get near enough playtime to do that anymore, so that would be my preference.
Could have two (or more) event lines, one for those who like to play newbies, and other events for middle-level (say, a bracket plus and minus around L15) and for higher-level characters.

Re: Is anyone interested in a setting up a regular D&D night/
I've been ruminating on this one for months and months now.
I generally find that if there were some extraordinary draw, I can manage to squeeze in a couple hours for whatever it is on a Sunday afternoon/evening. Its rare that my Sunday is totally jam packed to the point of a total lack of 'wiggle-room' for diversion.
So maybe, just maybe, if I commit to blocking out 2 hours on each sunday, or maybe every other sunday.... and some other folks are willing/able to do the same...
We might be able to do a little sumpin' sumpin'?
The question is, seeing as I don't want to commit to running as DM (means dedicating more time between sessions), how do we allocate those two hours to a format that will be agreeable to whatever attendees we have?

Please no heckling...
This is kind of a weird suggestion, in an effort to not have to tie up a participant as DM and everyone get to do something "new and fresh" perhaps a different PW would be fun for a change, just for these sessions? Perhaps somewhere none of us play regularly but has a good reputation for content/gameplay?

I think we could just do a group/party RP session.
Maybe each person puts forth a goal they are working on, like completing a quest or obtaining some materials for an upgrade, etc... And then we pool our resources to try and progress each other's goals.
I am sure occasionally myself or another DM might put something together for the group, I just want that option to be a special treat rather than an expectation.
And as long as its not a marathon of requests, I am more than willing to make some time to handle some stuff on my DM.

Ugh. Cd key issues
Gog.com can get you a new multiplayer CD key from what I understand for like 10 bucks. If I recall, you have to email the customer service to request a multiplayer cd key after your NWN purchase.
I could be wrong, though.
As for the regular play night, we should start throwing out time slots...
I can do Sundays, for a two hour block between 4pm to 11pm eastern time (I can generally swap stuff around to make a particular 2 hour slot workable).
I suppose my preference would be evenings after 6pm eastern, because I can get other stuff done and then settle in.

I won a copy from GOG when they had the world walker event, and I just got the new keys, was trying to figure out a way to recover my old ones so I could avoid anymore issues getting back to my pc's. Not sure if I'll be able to do it that way so I may just have to suck it up and toss the new keys in there

Re: Is anyone interested in a setting up a regular D&D night/
I was going to suggest something "asynchronous" for a community that have conflicting schedule (I AM a conflicting schedule myself D=), and this is a good idea for something like that.daveyeisley wrote:
Maybe each person puts forth a goal they are working on, like completing a quest or obtaining some materials for an upgrade, etc... And then we pool our resources to try and progress each other's goals.
It's kind of hard to describe without more examples than what daveyeisley mentioned, but we should consider more objectives that can be communicated among players and DM without requiring real time feedback. The big draw back is that not many things can be done asynchronously (gathering materials... taking some screenshots... scouting reports... can't think of more) and it can feel awkward participating it without other people physically around. But I believe it's the best way to get something rolling and thus move it at least a little beyond discussion.
Either way, I want to show my interest to participate, but I too have an erratic schedule =(
RE: GOG CD key issue - Yeah their NWN copies work funny. I never owned NWN before (third day today woo) and I had to request a key from their support separately. Well worth the hassle though!

Yeah, the GOG cd key thing is a odd sort, but I am most concerned about digging my old keys out of my long dead desktop pc, as I have a rather extensive list of characters that I have invested a LOT of time in attached to those old keys. So it just seems to me to be easiest to try and dig up those old keys rather then try to move everyone.

Regarding the old desktop, I assume it no longer boots to windows, so.... do you know if it is just the OS that died, or if the hard drive itself is dead? For example, if you remove the hard drive from it, and obtain a cable to connect it to your new machine (depending on if the old drive is SATA or IDE interface, and I assume a 3.5 inch drive for a desktop) using a USB port... then you may be able to browse the contents.
For Example:
$20 plus tax and shipping - IDE interface for 3.5 inch Hard Drive - External USB Enclosure (if you want to have all that data permanently available)
$20 plus tax and shipping - SATA interface for 3.5 inch Hard Drive - External USB Enclosure (if you want to have all that data permanently available)
OR
$14 plus tax and shipping - Universal SATA/IDE to USB cable to temporarily connect a drive and try to rescue data

Also Ray, there is no need to 'move' everyone of your characters.
You can have multiple accounts bound to one set of keys.... so all you would need to do if you use your new keys, is create a new temporary account and get logged into Aenea, then have capture the new CD key data, and add it to your old account.
Then you should be able to log in with your old account, with the new CD keys, and access all your PCs.

Re: Is anyone interested in a setting up a regular D&D night/
Hey Dave, the old desktop still boots fine actually. I spose calling it dead was a bit extreme, the video card is shot, so after it gets warmed up, it craps out. I actually had intended on gifting the new copy of NWN to either my son or brother in law, with that old desktop, after replacing the video card of course, hence the desire to retrieve my old keys. But thanks for the tips none the less

You could still take the hard drive out, connect it to your current machine with the cheaper universal cable, rescue your data and CD keys, then put the drive back in.

Re: Is anyone interested in a setting up a regular D&D night/
Right now it is just a matter of finding my old monitor cable, once that is located I'm sure I can get it fired up long enough to get those keys. But since that video card crapped out I've been using laptops, so no need for the monitor cable, hence it's misplacement, eh, lol.

Re: Is anyone interested in a setting up a regular D&D night/
Ray broke it again....
So back on topic, I don't see anyone reporting issues with Sundays.
I am thinking we could have our first gathering/RP-meet-and-greet/planning session this Sunday. The only question is whether earlier or later is better.
I am going to guess that folks in Europe will prefer earlier, and I'm not sure how many we have on the west coast or central times... So...
Why don't we shoot for 3pm EST?

"Why don't we shoot for 3pm EST?"
Good time for me. However, my DSL has been problematic for the past two weeks; severe outages that seem to evade the Techs thus far.
And I may craft a new PC after all; miss my Rogues.
