All of the forms of healing you mentioned deals damage to a vampire. The only way for a vampire to heal is to quaff a potion of blood and rest or use a negative energy dealing spell (such as Inflict Wounds series of spells, Harm, or Negative Energy Burst, etc)

Not sure on the latter since I haven't tested it...but almost sure I read somewhere that The Amethyst Dragon made it so PC vampires is healed instead of taking damage from negative energy damaging spells.
Edit: Here's the formula for blood healing: https://aenea.aforumfree.com/t261-vampires-blood#1131 I found it very enlightening. Smile

What I opined last night to Friko in answer to his question seems proven correct.... I've not played a vampire, but I did suggest the general principles of how Inflict/Negative Energy spells heal an undead, healing spells and potions harm an undead, and blood heals a vampire.

However, I still don't see how one would be able to heal huge damages in combat, if one's vampire does not have the ability to use spells?

Dragon blood. It's the vampire version of asis full healing potions.

I can't find the posting, but I believe that Lay of hands does NOT damage a vampire.

Harm, negative energy ray and the inflict spells heal vampires. The only caveat is that it requires another PC to cast them on the vampire, as the spells cannot be self targetted.

Overall, the best route for a vampire to go with healing is dragon blood. Horde it, buy it anytime you see it in a shop, don't pass up a chance to kill a dragon, know where the dragons can be found and gather up as much dragon blood as possible.

If using regular blood for healing, it requires boosting your healing skill, and likewise having the best wisdom and charisma modifier possible.... even then with +50 healing skill items, skill focus and epic skill focus healing, you'll only be healing 106+ability modifiers worth of HP per bottle of blood. Dragon blood is the way to go.... no need for skill enhancement items nor blowing two feats on the healing skill focuses.

Ahhh. Idea

That makes sense of a comment I heard once, about vampires being fond of dragon blood.

Thanks, Manny!

I still remember the days when dragon blood was in the form of the generic NWN "dragon blood" icon, and couldn't be stacked, as opposed to the 'potion' versions we got now. No AoO's from using the old one in combat, but say goodbye to your quickslots if you wanted to have more than one or two ready for a quick heal in the middle of combat affraid
