Don't worry, I'll be back - maybe I'll use the down time to draw up some even more unpronounceable names for y'all to herniate over!

They won't allow you to install NWN at the internet café, but your boss allowed you to install it at work? Doesnt really sound right, but must be nice with a so lenient boss(unless, of course, you went behind their back )...or did I misread your comment? >.>

I miss all y'all ...
On the bright side, I am finally getting around to those pesky chores that I've been meaning to do for some time ... like reorganize the many gigs of NwN data that I have spread across several hdds! Maybe it's time to dig back into those old modules, and see if I can finally finish one up!
Till we meet again, friends!

Suck is...
My amount of computer time this week, so far. Drastically limited due to:
a) painted a room
b) cleared furniture and carpet from three rooms for carpet replacement
c) moved everything back into those room after carpet installation
d) replaced old security door with a new one
e) got house appraised for possible refinance
- - result today: counting purchase price and improvements, the house has lost almost 1/2 its market value in the last 7 years.
f) child #1 had minor surgery (yesterday)
g) child #4 got puking sick
h) child #2 got puking sick
i) child #3 got puking sick (middle of the night last night)
j) child #2 ended up with 105 degree F fever (this afternoon)
k) wife may be getting sick
l) dragon may be getting sick

Going to help an old friend take apart a sheet-metal shed that collapsed during last snow season, and slicing your index finger almost to the bone, then the question of tetanus immunization comes up, the emergency room visit, and the "be sure to clean the wound and change the dressing 3 times a day" BS....

Re: Suck is....
What really sucks is, there was a pair of gloves 6 feet from me... I just thought I only needed to whack that psrt once or twice with the hammer, so my hand wouldnt actually be touching the metal... when the hammer deflected from the third whack (in which i used more force) it ended up deflecting my hand across the plane of another metal sheet with an exposed (and rusted) edge.... before I could even regain control of my hand from the impact, the finger was already sliced very deeply
I did it to myself.... I shoulda just grabbed the gloves and played it safe...

getting bogged in your own driveway, .. more than once.
At least the recovery with tractor was simple enough.
Better than a week ago when I went down the back to check the firewood paddock:
Step 1 - Cruiser bogged
step 2 - tractor bogged pulling out cruiser
step 3 - back hoe bogged on the way to pulling out above.
step 4 - back hoe is self recovering, fortunately, (use back hoe to lift out and drag along)
step 5 - recover tractor
step 6 - bog tractor again on second attempt at cruiser.
step 7 - recover cruiser with back hoe
step 8 - recover tractor with back hoe
step 9 - recover slasher that was abandoned to recover tractor
step 10 - get everything back to the shed without incident.
Note to self : when wet walk down the back end when curious.

Re: Suck is....
OK; just an Aenean tale of woe, and we have all had them. But mine is worse cause it is me....
Tryiing to power up the latest of my Bright Gmome Bottlebottom clan, as the race is getting overhauled. Burton is 9th (ie; 7 Wiz/ 2 Rog), and begins the day by trying to get some needed gems and crystals from the hidden mine. He barely beats sunset and a crowded graveyard, so that went well, but for the first time, runs into two Umber's; not just one. And they are lucky; making all their ST's, and half kill the Gnome before he finally wins the encounter. Now it is personal. Not he; but I.
And between them, I find a single unmarked gem. Yes Charlie Brown, I also got a rock....
After resting, I wander to Tradeholm to look for specials. On the way, I run into lucky Anhkegs, lucky Gnolls, and very lucky Fire Retardent Devourer beetles. Between them, I am half dead, and half my rations are gone, too.
Taking a detour, I try and sneak into a hidden treasure vault, as I discovered just yesterday that while Giants may be powerful, they can be bypassed by Invisibility. Same plan for today; difference being is the Old Red 'seeing invisible' Dragon that spawned near the entrance. Really; at 9th?
One Draconic spell later, I am half dead again. And while the treasure is intact and pocketed, I discover that resting is impossible in the hot lava cave. So I use a Teleport scroll, and thankfully it works.
Tradeholm. Start to sell the few baubles found, but must seek the best price. Change from bracers to Greater Appraise gloves. Where are they? Ah! I just sold them to the grocer! Buy them back for an overall loss of profit. Consider moving on from there to gather Soul Gems from the Dragonlin Kobolds, but decide at this point to switch to someone less squishy. And luckier....
*sigh* really does not sum up the frustration, and the sad part is that this only took a single hour of play. Maybe one day I will laugh, but not this day.....

Having to buy a new refrigerator because the existing one decided to stop working (not surprising...it's out of the warranty period), now I have to throw out a lot of food (I'd just gone shopping an bought a bunch of yogurt, eggs, milk, and other stuff) while shelling out hundreds of dollars for something I already own one of.

Cant really tell you why.... but this just made me picture the scene in Lethal Weapon 4 where Joe Pesci goes on a rant about cellphones
Joking aside, sorry bout the fridge and the grub

New fridge is installed and chilling. Luckily not all the food had to go...the freezer section of the old one was still functional. But I had really wanted some yogurt this morning...

Suck is:
My desktop computer is acting up, randomly rebooting itself for no apparent reason.
My wifes desktop computer is acting up, either the onboard sound mixer blew up or the software is corrupt, and I even figure out which it is, dell really does suck.
My wifes laptop is fine, so I am using it for NWN, but that is going on two weeks now and she is about ready for me to move it on over!
The old computer I bought for 100 bucks for the really nice monitor and wireless mouse is running fine, but is has only 512 memory, and only a PCI express x1 pci slot, so I cant swap my video card and a couple of gig of memory in, because it is like ddr 2 or something.
I cant just order a new computer because the hail storm did a job on the roof and cars, and my deductibles were 1K, and of course they ran sewer into the neighborhood costing another 1.6K to get hooked up, and so the reserves are at rock bottom (OK, at 1K, but that is as close as I care to get to rock bottom, Red and me is just too old to go back to living paycheck to paycheck!)
So, middle of next month, I am going to order me a new computer! I am thinking about getting a laptop with a docking station, any suggestions for a nice system sub 1K? I have a nice monitor and keyboard to plug into the docking station, just need a decent laptop with good memory and video card and docking station!
Or go back with another desktop a better option?

Re: Suck is....
Desktop vs. laptop is a toss up between portability and upgradeability. I personally like Dells very much, but if you are filled with disdain for them, perhaps consider an HP. Both have good laptops and docking stations. You may wish to search for a good deal on newegg.com.

Suck is... A stupid hurricane knocking out power and Internet, and the electric company estimating between 3 and 5 days to restore it.
No power means no C-pap machine... Which means I barely sleep at all and get almost no rest... Tired and cranky.
The only electronics and Internet I have right now is my iPhone....while it's better than nothing, my god I am bored..

Re: Suck is....
New Laptop arrived today, built for gaming, and am unsure where my NWN install disks are (or even if I still have them). Curses... at least I don't need a new frig though :-)
I sincerely appreciated the offer, thank you. The HP DVxxxx line of laptops had some serious (and well documented) problems with thermal paste/soldering pulling away from components after time - I stripped my laptop down, and decided I didn't want to bake my motherboard and scrapped it for parts.

www.Gog.com for 10 bucks you get NWN digital download. If you cant find your disks, its worth $10.

I tried four times to download from them, and they refused to take my money.... Just as well, my wife doesn't want me using the credit card for such things, and it would have likely provoked a stern talking to from her once we got the bill. I was going to blame you Dave in my defense.
However, I've found the disks, but am having installation issues. The installation/play CD is scratched so I'm off to find a video store to see if they can buff it out.

Re: Suck is....
I just returned from hunting for it at game stores (and 1/2 Priced Books). No luck. But I found out it was my credit card company that was nixing the transaction with Gog.com, and got them to approve the purchase. Thanks for offering to work it out with me Dave, that kind of helpfulness is part of why I love this community...
Now I just have to wait some hours for the download, install, then the CEP stuff, and then Aenea files :-)
